Senior WooCommerce Engineer / Technical Lead — Custom Tour Booking System

We are an established Icelandic travel company seeking a senior WooCommerce engineer and technical lead for a phased, long-term project. We have an existing live WooCommerce store with historical orders, customers, subscriptions, memberships and Icelandic payment integrations that must be preserved. The initial paid phase will focus on auditing and stabilizing the existing store, evaluating hosting and migration requirements, and designing the architecture for a custom tour-booking plugin. The booking system will manage tours, multiple departures, bookings, passengers, capacity, staged payments, manifests, operational reporting and a complete audit history. Later phases will include plugin development, a streamlined staff interface, customer booking improvements and front-end modernization. Required experience: Custom WooCommerce plugin development WooCommerce CRUD APIs and HPOS compatibility Action Scheduler, WP-Cron and background processing Payment gateway integrations, webhooks, retries and refunds Database design and safe data migrations Git-based development, staging and automated testing Safe deployment without overwriting new production orders Security and responsible handling of customer data Clear written and spoken English You must be able to explain technical decisions clearly to a non-technical business owner. Work must be performed through Git and staging; no unapproved experimentation will be permitted on the live store. The first engagement will be a paid discovery and technical-planning phase of up to approximately 40 hours, capped at $3,000.
