Summary

Senior Django Backend Engineer — Transactional Workflow System (Sports Operations) Looking for a senior backend engineer to lead development of an internal operations platform for a professional sports organization. This is a system-of-record application: entity registration, rule-based eligibility, approval workflows, and immutable audit history. Not a CMS, not a CRUD app. What you'll build: Data model with canonical internal IDs and external ID mapping to third-party providers Configurable rules engine with multiple severity levels (block / warning / requires approval) and a formal exceptions workflow State-machine-driven approval flow (draft → submitted → approved → locked) with non-destructive versioning and point-in-time snapshots Object-level permissions (role + resource scope) Business audit trail separate from technical logging Later phase: event-driven publishing and a third-party API integration with retry/reconciliation Stack: Django, PostgreSQL, Django admin (extended), Celery in phase 2. A frontend-leaning fullstack dev handles most UI; you own architecture and the transactional core. Requirements: 5+ years Python/Django in production Proven experience with workflow/state-machine systems, versioned records, or financial/compliance-grade data integrity Strong PostgreSQL (transactions, constraints, JSONB) Experience with django-guardian or equivalent object-level permissions a plus Spanish fluency required (stakeholders and documentation are in Spanish) Available ~full-time for 4–6 months, phase 2 optional afterward Engagement: Hourly, starting with a 2-week paid discovery/design sprint. Long-term potential — this platform will grow additional modules. To apply: Briefly describe a system you built that required versioned records or an approval workflow, and what the hardest data-integrity problem in it was.
