Muhammed was very friendly, and our initial interaction went well. He was also highly responsive, often replying even late at night. However, the main issue we encountered was regarding the time estimate for our project. He initially assured us that reworking our simple 2D design in Illustrator and digitizing it for embroidery would take no more than 5 hours at most. Given the straightforward nature of the design and his level of experience, this seemed reasonable. Even if it had taken up to 8 hours, it would have still been acceptable to us.

The problem arose when he logged 38 hours for the task, claiming to have even worked one 15-hour day. This would have cost us $220 and seemed completely disproportionate to the scope of work. We filed a complaint with Upwork, and after reviewing the case, they agreed with us and issued a refund of 168$, granting him the reasonable 5h of work.

That said, Muhammed delivered decent quality work. We recommend clearly agreeing on the estimated hours in writing and, when setting up the project, manually capping the allowed hours in the Upwork system to 2–3 times the agreed estimate to avoid similar situations. In our case, we mistakenly left the default 40+ hour limit per week
