Data engineer services might include:

• Create scalable platforms that enable efficient data movement 
  
• Develop systems that support external enterprise systems via secure APIs and connectors
  
• Design architectures for data sharing and processing use cases
  
• Optimize and maximize data pipelines, infrastructure, and stacks
  
• Facilitate end-to-end scaling and monitoring of platforms

Requirements to become a data engineer on Upwork:

• Must be over the age of 18 with an internet connection
  
• Experience is not required but is preferred
  

Preferred skills for data engineer freelancers:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field 
  
• Software back-end and/or data engineering experience 
  
• Familiarity with road-map planning and batch processing
  
• Development experience with Python and Java
