Fact-checker services might include:

• Use internet search, email, and phone calls to verify information before publication
• Confirm the accuracy of historical information, data such as survey results and study findings, quotes, and sources of material
• Direct queries to the appropriate party (such as the Author or the editor) for correction when necessary
• Add sources for facts that require citation
  

Requirements to become a freelance fact-checker on Upwork:

• Must be over the age of 18 with an internet connection
• Experience is not required but is preferred
  

Preferred skills for fact-checker freelancers:

• Experience with outreach or otherwise communicating tactfully with various sources of information
• Ability to clearly and concisely communicate inaccuracies that require resolution before publishing
• Familiarity with computer programs used to store and transmit documents and recordings
• Excellent attention to detail and an aptitude for accuracy and thoroughness
