Astro Website Designer & Developer

Fire Fuel SEO builds websites for local service businesses as part of our local SEO work. We are looking for a contractor who can both design and build these sites in Astro: someone who can take a brief and produce a clean, well-structured layout, then implement it as fast, technically sound, production-ready code. This is a project-based role. We have a consistent pipeline of site builds, and we are looking for a dependable contractor to handle them on an ongoing basis. You should be able to work from a brief with limited oversight and deliver finished sites that meet our standards for design quality, performance, and technical SEO. Responsibilities Design Design website layouts and page structures for local service businesses, working from a brief, brand assets, and reference examples. Make sound visual decisions on layout, typography, spacing, and hierarchy that support conversion and readability. Produce mobile-first, responsive designs that translate cleanly into code. Development Build and launch responsive websites in Astro from your own designs, provided designs, or AI-generated starting output. Build reusable Astro components, layouts, and a template system to standardize and speed up future builds. Write clean, maintainable, well-organized code. Performance & technical SEO Meet strong Core Web Vitals and page-speed benchmarks on every build. Implement technical on-page SEO: semantic HTML, structured data/schema, sitemaps, canonicals, redirects, and metadata. Optimize images, loading, and bundle size. CMS, integrations & maintenance Configure headless CMS, forms, and content models as needed. Integrate third-party tools and APIs (e.g., GoHighLevel/CRM, analytics, tracking). Handle deployments, hosting configuration, and ongoing fixes and updates. Requirements Demonstrated experience both designing and building production websites. Strong design ability: layout, typography, spacing, and responsive/mobile-first design. Portfolio required. Hands-on experience building production sites with Astro. Experience with Claude Code/Codex/Both for efficiently building out websites Strong HTML, CSS (Tailwind or similar), and modern JavaScript/TypeScript. Working knowledge of technical and on-page SEO (schema, semantic markup, sitemaps, redirects, metadata). Proficiency with Git and Cloudflare Ability to work accurately from a brief with limited oversight. Reliable internet and equipment, and reasonable overlap with US Pacific Time business hours for collaboration. Preferred Experience with a headless CMS (Sanity, Storyblok, Contentful, or similar). Experience integrating GoHighLevel/CRM tools, forms, and APIs. Experience with local business websites and an understanding of conversion-focused design (CRO).
