Australian Tax Specialist — Non-Resident Exit & Final ATO Filing
Worldwide
What I need I'm an Australian citizen who left Australia permanently in July 2025. I'm now a tax resident of Paraguay with a cédula, RUC (tax ID), and monthly tax filings active there since January 2026. I need a specialist who understands Australian non-resident tax obligations to review what's been done so far, identify any gaps, and make sure my exit from the Australian tax system is airtight. This is not a standard tax return. I need someone experienced with: - Formal cessation of Australian tax residency - Part-year residency declarations - Non-resident tax return filings - ATO obligations for Australians earning exclusively foreign-sourced income through a foreign entity (US LLC) - CRS (Common Reporting Standard) reporting implications My situation - Left Australia July 2025, haven't returned much since. - Paraguayan residency granted October 28, 2025 - Paraguayan tax ID (RUC) received January 2026, monthly filings active since then - All income earned through a US LLC (New Mexico single-member LLC, foreign-owned disregarded entity) — no Australian-sourced income beyond minor bank interest - Australian company fully shut down and deregistered with ASIC (September 2025) - A sole trader ABN was reactivated temporarily (Aug–Oct 2025) and is still technically active — needs to be cancelled - An "early" FY26 personal tax return was filed in February 2026 covering July–October 2025 only (~$2,500 tax payable, not yet paid) - My previous accountant said he would "declare this as final tax" but I have no confirmation of what that means mechanically or whether the ATO accepted it - Commonwealth Bank account updated to non-resident status with Paraguayan address and tax ID - No Australian property, investments, or other ties beyond the bank account - Certificado de Residencia Fiscal (Paraguayan tax residency certificate) in progress — expected within 30 days What I need you to do - Audit what's been done — review the filings made by my previous accountant and tell me whether my ATO exit has been handled correctly or if there are gaps - Advise on FY26 filing — the Australian financial year ends June 30, 2026. Do I need to file a non-resident return for this year? If so, what goes on it and how is it structured? - Formalize non-resident status — whatever the correct process is to formally tell the ATO I am no longer an Australian tax resident, make sure it's done properly - Cancel the ABN — set the cessation date appropriately - Build an evidence brief — advise me on what documentation I should have on file in case the ATO challenges my non-residency (I have cédula, RUC, Paraguayan tax filings, bank statements, entry/exit records, and potentially a property purchase contract) - Ongoing availability — if the ATO comes back with questions, I want someone I can call on Ideal candidate - Australian CPA or registered tax agent - Specific experience with Australian expat non-residency declarations (not just standard domestic returns) - Understands the ATO's approach to non-treaty countries - Comfortable working async via messaging/email with occasional calls - Can move quickly — this is time-sensitive To apply Please briefly describe your experience with Australian non-resident tax situations. Bonus if you've dealt with ATO challenges to non-residency claims. Include your hourly rate or a fixed-price estimate for the audit + filing scope.
