**Upwork Job Title** Shopify Bookkeeper (Cleanup + Ongoing Process Build) --- **Overview** I run a small but growing Shopify-based ecommerce business and need a sharp, detail-oriented bookkeeper to help finalize 2025 books (largely complete) and then build a clean, repeatable process for ongoing financial management. This is not a “hand it off and disappear” role. I want someone who will work alongside me—tight collaboration, clear thinking, and a bias toward building something structured and scalable. --- **Scope of Work** **Phase 1: Close Out 2025 (Short-Term, Immediate)** * Review and validate existing 2025 bookkeeping (mostly complete) * Reconcile: * Shopify payouts * Payment processors (Shopify Payments, PayPal, etc.) * Bank accounts and credit cards * Ensure accurate categorization (COGS, shipping, fees, returns, etc.) * Identify and fix gaps, inconsistencies, or errors * Prepare clean, tax-ready financials **Phase 2: Build Ongoing System (Core Value)** * Design a streamlined monthly bookkeeping workflow * Create a clear reconciliation process for: * Shopify → payouts → bank * Fees, refunds, chargebacks * Improve chart of accounts structure (if needed) * Establish reporting that actually reflects the business: * Revenue vs. net sales * True margins (including shipping, returns, fees) * Document processes so this doesn’t break every month **Phase 3: Ongoing Support (Optional / Likely)** * Monthly bookkeeping and reconciliation * Periodic financial review and cleanup * Continuous improvement of systems and reporting --- **Requirements** * Strong experience with **Shopify bookkeeping** * Deep understanding of: * Ecommerce revenue flows * Payment processor reconciliation * Returns, discounts, and fees * Proficiency with accounting tools (QuickBooks Online preferred) * Ability to **spot issues, not just record transactions** * Clear communicator—able to explain what’s wrong and how to fix it --- **What I’m Looking For** * Someone who thinks like an operator, not just a task-doer * Comfortable working in a slightly messy “almost there” environment and tightening it up * Process-minded—can build something clean, repeatable, and scalable * Willing to collaborate directly and iterate --- **Nice to Have** * Experience with small DTC brands * Familiarity with inventory + COGS tracking for ecommerce * Experience cleaning up books that were “almost right” --- **Engagement Details** * Immediate start * Initial focus: short, intensive cleanup (a few sessions) * Likely ongoing monthly work if it’s a fit --- **To Apply** Include: * Brief description of relevant Shopify bookkeeping experience * Example of a cleanup/reconciliation project you’ve done * Tools you typically use * Your approach to making ecommerce books *actually accurate* --- This is a straightforward job if you know Shopify.
