Duties: Ensure the ethical, safe, and legal conduct of research involving human subjects, primarily by reviewing, approving, and monitoring study protocols, consent forms, and risk-benefit ratios. Who is Invited? Physicians, scientists and other professionals such as research coordinators, nurses, lawyers, and ethicists, as well as community members or representatives of patients’ groups who can represent the cultural and moral values of study participants. What Does Participation Involve? Ethics Committee (EC) members are responsible for the comprehensive oversight of the research review process, including the assessment of risk-benefit analyses and privacy considerations within proposed research protocols. It is imperative for academicians and researchers to adhere to the regulations established by ECs to safeguard human rights and protect research subjects, while simultaneously mitigating risks such as potential publication retractions.
