E-Commerce CMO — Brand, Creative, Funnels & Growth Across a DTC Portfolio

Summary

JOB POST We're a small e-commerce holding group running several DTC brands. We're hiring one full-time marketing leader to own brand and growth across the portfolio. This is not a channel role and it's not a performance-only role. We believe the brands that win are the ones with a real point of view, a distinct voice, and creative and offers that people actually respond to. You own that — and you own the numbers it produces. You are the marketing function: brand building, positioning, creative direction, offer development, funnel and landing page build-out, paid media, influencer/affiliate, email/SMS, SEO, and the data and attribution layer underneath all of it. You'll set the plan and you'll be in the ad accounts, the page builder, the briefs, and the flows executing it. Note on scope: Amazon marketplace operations and PPC are handled by a separate team. You don't run the channel — but you're expected to pull Amazon data into your view of the business, since it shapes demand, creative, pricing, and what we choose to scale on DTC. We operate lean by design. You'll have a small team plus contractors, and we expect you to use AI aggressively — creative production, research, copy, page builds, reporting, analysis — so a 3-person team performs like a 10-person one. Show us you already work this way. What you'll own Brand Brand strategy and positioning: who the brand is for, what it stands for, why it wins against the obvious alternatives Brand identity and voice — the persona a customer recognizes across an ad, an email, a package, and a landing page Founder-led, creator-led, and spokesperson-driven brand building where the category rewards it Brand consistency across every touchpoint as we scale, and across multiple brands without them blurring together Offers & angles Offer architecture: pricing, bundling, subscription, guarantees, free-plus-shipping, trials — building a portfolio of offers per brand, not one hero SKU and hope Messaging angles: developing and testing multiple distinct angles per brand across audience segments, pain points, and awareness stages Systematic testing of offer × angle × creative, with a real hypothesis behind each cell Competitive and customer research that produces the angles in the first place — reviews, surveys, call transcripts, forums Funnel & landing pages Full-funnel architecture from cold traffic to repeat purchase, mapped to awareness stage Building landing pages yourself: advertorials, listicles, quizzes, comparison pages, PDP variants, upsell and post-purchase flows CRO as an ongoing program — hypothesis, test, read, ship. Not a one-time audit You can go from angle to live page in days, not weeks, without waiting on a developer Creative Creative direction end to end: concepting, briefing, casting, iterating, killing what doesn't work Building a creative testing system — volume plus a real hypothesis behind each concept, not random variation Directing designers, editors, UGC creators, and AI production pipelines. You set the standard; you don't wait for someone else's interpretation Site, packaging, and lifecycle creative — not just ads Growth Full-funnel strategy and quarterly plans per brand, tied to revenue and contribution margin targets Paid media across Meta, Google, TikTok, and emerging channels — hands-on account management and budget allocation Influencer, UGC, and affiliate programs Email/SMS lifecycle, retention, and LTV expansion SEO and organic: technical foundation, content strategy, and category/comparison pages that compound Data Attribution and measurement: pixel/CAPI and server-side tracking, GA4, post-purchase surveys, incremental testing, and a source of truth we actually trust Clean event tracking, dashboards, and pulling Amazon and DTC data into one picture of the business Diligence support on brands we're evaluating — you tell us whether a brand is growable and what it would take Who this is for 5+ years in DTC/e-commerce, including a CMO, Head of Growth, or founder-operator seat You have personally taken at least one brand from under $1M to $5M+ and can explain exactly how You have real brand and creative taste, and a portfolio that shows it — not just a spend history You build your own pages. Shopify plus a page builder, or equivalent — you're not blocked by a dev queue You think in offers and angles, and you have a research process that produces them Deep P&L literacy — you manage to margin, not vanity ROAS You've built or rebuilt an attribution stack yourself and can defend your methodology Shopify-native; fluent enough in Amazon data to read it and act on it You've run lean teams and built systems, SOPs, and dashboards that survive without you Genuinely AI-native in your daily workflow Direct communicator, low ego, high ownership. You raise problems early and bring the fix with them Who this is not for Agencies or anyone subcontracting the work Specialists in one channel looking to grow into the rest Strategy-only operators who need a team to execute Media buyers who treat creative and offers as someone else's job Anyone who needs daily direction Details Full-time, long-term.
