Custom Shopify Profit, Inventory Forecasting & AI Analytics Dashboard
Worldwide
Custom Shopify Profit, Inventory Forecasting & AI Analytics Dashboard We are looking for an experienced developer or development team to build a custom business intelligence dashboard for our e-commerce brand, Blessington. We currently operate three Shopify expansion stores: * Australia — AUD * United Kingdom — GBP * United States — USD We need one central dashboard that connects all three Shopify stores and gives us an accurate, automatically updated view of our overall business performance. The system should function similarly to platforms such as Triple Whale, but with a much stronger focus on detailed daily profit and loss reporting, inventory planning, SKU-level forecasting, cash flow visibility, and operational cost tracking. ## Core Requirements ### 1. Multi-Store Shopify Integration The dashboard must connect to all three of our Shopify stores and consolidate the information into one central reporting system. It must: * Import orders, revenue, discounts, refunds, taxes and shipping revenue * Separate performance by store, country and currency * Provide a combined group-level view * Convert GBP and USD results into AUD using current or configurable exchange rates * Avoid duplicate data or inaccurate revenue reporting * Update automatically each day, with the option for more frequent syncing if practical ### 2. Daily Profit and Loss Dashboard We need an accurate daily, weekly and monthly profit and loss view. The dashboard should calculate: * Gross sales * Net sales * Discounts * Refunds and returns * Taxes * Shipping revenue * Product cost or cost of goods sold * Advertising spend * Shopify and payment transaction fees * Fulfilment costs * Shipping and postage costs * Duties and import costs * Software expenses * Contractor or operational expenses * Other manually entered expenses * Gross profit * Contribution margin * Net profit * Profit margin percentage We should be able to view profitability: * Across the entire business * By Shopify store * By country * By product * By SKU * By collection * By day, week, month and custom date range Advertising is managed from one primary advertising account, so the system must correctly connect advertising spend and allocate or report it across the three stores without double-counting it. Experience integrating Meta Ads, Google Ads and other marketing platforms would be highly regarded. ### 3. Inventory Planning and SKU Forecasting Inventory planning is a major part of this project. The system should import current inventory levels across all three stores and calculate average sell rates for every SKU. It should help us determine: * Average units sold per day * Average units sold per week and month * Current stock on hand * Combined stock across all stores or locations * Days of inventory remaining * Estimated stockout date * Recommended reorder quantity * Recommended reorder date * Expected demand during manufacturing lead time * Safety stock requirements * Slow-moving and fast-moving products * Products at risk of running out * Products that may be overstocked We need to be able to enter different manufacturing lead times for different products or suppliers. For example, if a product takes 75 days to manufacture, the dashboard should calculate how many units are expected to sell during that period and recommend an appropriate reorder quantity based on sales velocity, current stock, open purchase orders and safety stock. Forecasting should be available at an individual SKU level, not only at a general product level. ### 4. Shipping Cost Reporting We need stronger visibility over how much we spend on shipping each month. The dashboard should help calculate: * Total monthly shipping expenditure * Average shipping cost per order * Shipping cost by store * Shipping cost by country * Shipping cost by courier or service * Shipping cost by product or order weight where possible * Shipping revenue collected from customers * Difference between shipping revenue and actual shipping expense * International duties or taxes paid by the business * Monthly shipping cost trends The exact integration method can be discussed depending on the shipping platforms, couriers and available APIs. The system should also allow shipping costs to be imported through CSV or manually entered when an automatic integration is unavailable. ### 5. Expense Management The dashboard should include a practical way to add and categorise expenses that do not come directly from Shopify. This may include: * Software subscriptions * Warehousing * Contractors * Manufacturing deposits * Freight * Duties * Packaging * Professional services * General business expenses Expenses may be recurring or one-off. We would like the ability to: * Create expense categories * Add recurring monthly expenses * Upload expenses by CSV * Manually enter or edit expenses * Allocate expenses to a specific store or across the entire business * Choose whether expenses are included in daily, monthly or cash-based reporting ### 6. AI and Automated Insights We are interested in using AI where it provides practical value. Potential AI features may include: * Identifying unusual changes in profit or expenses * Highlighting products likely to sell out * Recommending reorder quantities * Identifying declining or improving SKU performance * Explaining why profit changed compared with a previous period * Flagging unexpected increases in advertising, shipping or transaction costs * Generating a daily business summary * Allowing us to ask questions about the data in plain English We are open to recommendations regarding the most useful and reliable AI features. Accuracy and transparency are more important than adding AI purely for appearance. ### 7. Dashboard and Reporting The dashboard should be clean, fast and easy to understand. We would ideally like: * Executive overview * Daily profit dashboard * Store comparison dashboard * Product and SKU profitability * Inventory forecasting * Shipping analysis * Advertising performance * Expense reporting * Cash flow or upcoming payment visibility * Custom date filters * Export to CSV or Excel * Role-based user access * Mobile-friendly reporting * Automated daily or weekly email summaries Charts and calculations must be clearly labelled, and users should be able to understand how each figure has been calculated. ## Accuracy and Data Validation Accuracy is extremely important. The successful developer must have a strong understanding of: * Shopify order and refund data * Multi-currency reporting * Cost of goods calculations * Payment processing fees * Advertising attribution limitations * Inventory forecasting * API integrations * Database design * Financial reporting logic We need the ability to audit the figures and see the source data behind important calculations. The dashboard should not simply estimate profit without showing the calculation method. ## Preferred Technical Experience We are open to recommendations on the technology stack, but relevant experience may include: * Shopify Admin API * Shopify webhooks * Meta Ads API * Google Ads API * Shipping or fulfilment APIs * Multi-currency data processing * PostgreSQL, MySQL or similar databases * Python, Node.js or similar backend technologies * React, Next.js or similar frontend frameworks * Cloud hosting and automated data pipelines * Financial dashboards * Inventory forecasting systems * AI or natural-language analytics ## Project Approach Please explain how you would approach the project, including: * Recommended technology stack * Data architecture * Shopify syncing method * Handling of refunds and order changes * Handling of three currencies * Advertising cost integration * Expense management * Inventory forecasting methodology * Hosting and security * Ongoing maintenance requirements * Estimated development stages * Relevant past work We expect the project to be completed in stages. A likely structure would include: 1. Discovery and final technical specification 2. Shopify and database integration 3. Profit and loss dashboard 4. Expense and shipping cost reporting 5. Inventory planning and forecasting 6. Advertising integrations 7. AI insights and automated summaries 8. Testing, reconciliation and deployment We are open to beginning with an MVP and expanding the system once the core financial and inventory calculations have been validated. ## Who We Are Looking For The ideal applicant will: * Have proven experience with Shopify integrations * Understand e-commerce profit reporting * Have experience working with multi-store or multi-currency businesses * Understand inventory forecasting and reorder planning * Be able to explain technical decisions clearly * Prioritise data accuracy and reliability * Provide clean documentation * Be available for ongoing improvements after the initial build Please do not apply with a generic proposal. In your application, please include: * Examples of similar dashboards or Shopify systems you have built * Your proposed technical approach * The main risks or challenges you see in this project * Your experience with multi-currency financial reporting * Your experience with inventory forecasting * Whether you are an individual developer or part of a team * Your estimated project structure and pricing model All communication, contracts and payments will remain through Upwork in accordance with Upwork’s Terms of Service. We are looking for a serious long-term development partner who can build a reliable system that becomes a central part of how we manage our business.
