Data Visualization Developer — PWC-Grade Chart Template System for a Cybersecurity Startup
Worldwide
Cybersecurity Startup About us: We're a founder-led, pre-launch cybersecurity technology company building something genuinely new in our category — the kind of generational, ground-breaking product that defines a market rather than competes in one. We're bootstrapped and early, which means two things: the budget for this first project is modest and honest, and the upside of getting in now — as we scale toward a global brand — is real. We're looking for someone who's excited to do exceptional work with us early and grow alongside the company as it scales. (We'll share our site with shortlisted candidates.) If you want a safe, high-rate, transactional gig, this isn't it. If you want to put genuinely best-in-class work into the foundation of a company you believe could become a category leader, read on. To understand the job here’s the minimal background: We create assessments. The results are presented as 1 or 2 pdfs depending on the specific product, but for this description and scope of work we discuss the 2 pdf deliverables. The work: For PDF Deliverable 1 We produce high-end executive assessment reports — premium, consultancy-grade documents delivered as PDFs to enterprise and financial-sector clients. Each report contains ~17 sections of data visualizations (charts, scoring scales, comparative matrices). Of those 17 there are 14 unique designs. Of these, 7 are actually tables with text inside them, not “charts/graphs.” These visuals must be flawless and identical in style across every client deliverable — the visual standard of a top-tier consulting firm (PwC / McKinsey-grade): restrained, precise, editorial. No chart-junk, no dashboard clutter. Our design standard is exacting, and this is the most visible part of what our clients pay for. The work: For PDF Deliverable 2 These graphics are essentially the same, but with the following nuance: These graphics compare multiple candidates’ results from the PDF 1 graphs/charts/tables and present them as a sort of “head-to-head comparison.” So the charts/tables are essentially the same at their core, base graphics code, but might compare 3-6 candidates (their scores/results) against one another. In the simplest explanation: same chart format but charts must be larger to handle the multiple candidate metrics side by side, stacked vertically, etc… We won’t always know in advance whether they need to compare 3, 4, 5, etc… So the charts need to be self-expanding to accommodate flexible candidate comparison numbers. This is a template-system build, not a one-off design job. We are NOT looking for someone to hand-draw 17 charts. We need a reusable rendering system: you design a small set of chart templates once, to our style standard, that take client data as input and output the finished visuals automatically and consistently into our PDF deliverable. You'll work alongside our systems engineer, who handles the data and PDF assembly — your job is the visualization layer and its styling. What you'll do: • Map our ~17 report sections (with the PDF 1 and PDF 2 variables) to a minimal set of reusable chart archetypes (we'll provide the section list and sample data). • Design and build those templates to a locked visual standard (typography, color, spacing, axis treatment) so every render is pixel-consistent. • Ensure clean output into PDF at print quality. • Hand off a documented, maintainable system our engineer can plug new client data into without redrawing anything. You must have: • A portfolio of editorial/consultancy-grade data visualization — clean, restrained, professional. (Please link specific chart work, not dashboards.) This is non-negotiable; the work speaks louder than the pitch. • Strong experience with a charting/dataviz library and data-driven, templated report generation. • Experience rendering charts to print-quality PDF. • A genuine design eye — judged on visual polish, not just function. • Ability to collaborate with our engineer on data structure and integration. Nice to have: experience with executive/financial/consulting report formats. We're pre-launch and bootstrapped, so this first project's budget is limited and we're looking for someone flexible who sees where this is going. In return, you're getting in early on something we believe is exceptional, with room to grow with us as we scale. We'll be upfront about budget; we ask you to be upfront about what you can deliver at this stage. That said, we will be expanding our build requirements as we move towards our future SAAS build in 2027, so if this works well we will have larger opportunities coming your way shortly. To apply, please include: 1. 2-3 portfolio links showing charts at the quality level described (consultancy-grade, not dashboard). 2. One sentence on which charting/rendering approach you'd use and why. 3. Your view on how to guarantee visual consistency across many client renders. 4. One line on what draws you to an early-stage opportunity like this. We'll start with a paid first milestone (2-3 template archetypes) so we can both confirm fit before committing to the full set.
