Job Summary: Odunlami Law Firm is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and detail-oriented Declaration Writer to join our legal team. The Declaration Writer is responsible for interviewing clients and drafting clear, compelling, and legally sound declarations in support of VAWA, asylum applications, waivers, and other immigration matters. This role requires excellent writing ability, strong attention to detail, and the emotional maturity to work with clients who may be recounting difficult or traumatic experiences. The ideal candidate combines strong storytelling skills with legal precision to produce declarations that accurately and persuasively support each client's case. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: Conduct thorough, trauma-informed client interviews to gather the facts, timeline, and personal history needed to support each case. Draft clear, detailed, and persuasive declarations for asylum, waiver, VAWA, U visa, and other immigration matters, tailored to the specific legal standard at issue. Translate client narratives into legally relevant statements that align with applicable case law and immigration standards. Collaborate closely with attorneys and paralegals to ensure declarations support the overall legal strategy for each case. Review declarations with clients for accuracy, completeness, and comfort with the final content before submission. Revise and edit drafts based on attorney feedback, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and strong narrative flow. Maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive client information with care and professionalism. Manage a caseload of multiple declarations simultaneously, meeting deadlines tied to filing dates and court schedules. Conduct basic legal and country-conditions research to support and strengthen declarations as needed. Maintain organized records of interview notes, drafts, and revisions within the firm's case management system. Required Skills: Exceptional written English skills, with the ability to write clearly, persuasively, and empathetically. Strong interviewing skills, with the sensitivity to draw out detailed accounts from clients discussing difficult or traumatic experiences. High attention to detail and commitment to factual accuracy. Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with immigration relief categories (asylum, VAWA, U visas, waivers, etc.) preferred. Ability to act with integrity, discretion, and confidentiality at all times. Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with attorneys and support staff. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred (additional languages a plus). Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree required; degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred. Prior experience drafting declarations, affidavits, or personal statements in an immigration law setting strongly preferred. Experience working with survivors of trauma, abuse, or persecution is a plus. Compensation: $250 per interview and completed declaration (client interview through final drafted declaration). Independent contractor engagement — flexible schedule based on case volume and filing deadlines. Opportunity for ongoing, recurring assignments based on performance and case availability.
