Developer Needed: Shopify & Printess Integration for Premium Personalised Photobook Business
Worldwide
Project Overview I’m launching a premium personalised photobook business and I’m looking for an experienced developer to integrate Printess (https://printess.com/) into my Shopify website. This is a greenfield project. I’m looking for a developer who can recommend the simplest and most maintainable implementation, rather than building unnecessary complexity. I’m currently gathering proposals and implementation estimates before beginning development. The goal is to build a lean but polished Version 1 that delivers a premium customer experience while keeping the technical implementation as simple, reliable and maintainable as possible. The successful freelancer may also have the opportunity to work on future enhancements after Version 1 launches. About the Business The business creates premium, magazine-inspired personalised photobooks. Customers will personalise their books using Printess Freestyle. The customer-facing website will be built by me using Shopify. I will either: • create all Printess templates and layout snippets myself, or • provide completed Canva designs for them to be recreated in Printess. The developer’s responsibility is to build the technical integration between Shopify and Printess and advise on the best implementation approach. Planned Customer Journey The intended Version 1 workflow is: Customer visits Shopify store ↓ Selects a photobook ↓ Clicks Personalise ↓ The correct Printess Freestyle template opens ↓ Customer personalises their book ↓ Customer can save and return later ↓ Customer completes editing ↓ Customer proceeds to Shopify Checkout ↓ Customer completes payment ↓ Production-ready PDFs are generated ↓ I download the PDFs ↓ I manually upload them to my chosen print provider Version 1 will not include automatic printer integration. Scope of Work The implementation should include: • Integrating Printess with Shopify. • Launching the correct Printess template from the relevant Shopify product. • Implementing Printess Freestyle (not Magic Photobook). • Implementing save and resume functionality using Printess SaveTokens (or your recommended approach). • Linking Shopify orders with the corresponding Printess project. • Enabling the native Printess AI features, including: o Background Removal o Face Stickers / Face Cutout o AI Text Generation • Generating production-ready cover and interior PDFs. • Providing a secure and simple way for me to retrieve those PDFs after payment. • Ensuring the editor works well on both desktop and mobile devices. • Testing the complete customer journey from product selection through to PDF generation. Version 1 Exclusions This project does not include: • Magic Photobook • Automatic printer integration • Shipping integrations • Warehouse integrations • Custom AI development • Custom image editing • Subscription services • Loyalty programmes • Advanced automation The objective is a lean, reliable Version 1 rather than a feature-complete platform. Quotations Requested Please provide two separate quotations. Option 1 – Technical Integration Only I will create all Printess templates and layout snippets myself. Please provide: • Estimated timeline • Fixed-price quotation • Any assumptions or exclusions Option 2 – Technical Integration + Template Recreation I will provide completed Canva photobook designs. Please include the cost of recreating those designs as editable Printess templates in addition to the full technical implementation. Please provide: • Estimated timeline • Fixed-price quotation • Any assumptions or exclusions Preferred Experience Experience with the following would be highly advantageous: • Shopify • JavaScript • TypeScript • React • Third-party API integrations • Embedded web applications Experience integrating web-to-print platforms would be a significant advantage. Examples include: • Printess • Printbox • Customer’s Canvas • CHILI Publish • DesignNBuy • OnPrintShop • Aleyant Pressero • or similar platforms. If you have not worked with a web-to-print platform before, please explain why your experience is transferable to this project. When Applying Please include: 1. A brief introduction about yourself. 2. Examples of similar projects you have completed. 3. Whether you have experience with Printess or another web-to-print platform. 4. How you would approach this implementation. 5. Whether you believe my proposed workflow is appropriate, or if you would recommend any improvements. 6. Whether you think a paid discovery/architecture phase is necessary before implementation, and if so, what you would deliver during that phase. 7. Your estimated implementation timeline. 8. Your fixed-price quotation for: o Option 1 (technical implementation only) o Option 2 (technical implementation plus Printess template creation) 9. Any assumptions, dependencies or potential risks that you think I should be aware of before starting development. Project Goal My priority is not to build the most technically complex solution. I’m looking for the simplest, most reliable implementation that delivers an excellent customer experience while keeping ongoing maintenance and future costs as low as possible. I’m looking for someone who can recommend practical, well-considered solutions rather than unnecessary complexity. If we’re a good fit, I’m hoping to build a long-term working relationship for future improvements and additional products. I welcome any recommendations that you believe would simplify the implementation while maintaining the intended customer experience.
