ESP32-based HVAC thermostat controller PCB — schematic + layout, JLCPCB-ready
Worldwide
What it is: A small WiFi control board that mounts inside a commercial rooftop AC unit. It runs the thermostat logic for a 2-stage cooling unit and reads a temperature sensor. I have the requirements and firmware experience; I want an experienced PCB designer to own the electronics design and propose the best approach — I'm not prescribing parts. What the board must do (hard requirements): ESP32 / WiFi — we have existing ESP32 firmware, so an ESP32-family module. Powered from 24 VAC (the unit's control-transformer circuit) — not mains, not USB. 4 control outputs to the AC unit's low-voltage terminals (Y1, Y2, G, W) — must be dry/potential-free contacts switching a 24 VAC signal (relays or SSRs — your call). A temperature-sensor input (thermistor or digital sensor — your recommendation). Screw/terminal connections for the field wiring; status LEDs; a way to flash firmware. Compact enough to sit inside an electrical junction box. 2-layer, manufacturable and assembly-ready at JLCPCB. Where you have freedom (bring your expertise): Power topology, relays vs SSRs, MCU/module variant, programming interface, and anything that makes it smaller, cheaper, or more reliable. If you see a better path than a typical relay board, propose it. Reference (optional inspiration, not a spec): github.com/THEFILTERKING/esp32-4-channel-relays Deliverables: Schematic + PCB layout (editable source) Gerbers, drill, BOM with LCSC part numbers (prefer JLCPCB Basic Parts), pick-and-place/CPL — DFM-checked and ready to order fab + assembly at JLCPCB. To apply: share 1–2 ESP32 boards you've designed and had manufactured, and a short note on how you'd approach the power stage + the 24 VAC switching. Fixed-price bid + timeline.
