Online English Tutor Wanted for 7-Year-Old We are looking for an experienced, reliable and engaging online English tutor for a bright, curious 7-year-old child based in Kenya. About the Role We are looking for someone who can build confidence, stretch the child appropriately and make English lessons enjoyable, interactive and meaningful. The family would like a tutor who can assess the child’s current level, identify strengths and areas for development, and create a clear learning plan that parents can understand and follow. The focus should be on genuine understanding, communication and confidence, rather than repetitive worksheets or rote learning. Schedule: The ideal start date is as soon as possible Expected cadence: Summer: around 2 English sessions per week Term time: likely 1 English session per week * Sessions are expected to be around 30 minutes * Lessons will take place online * Some flexibility may be needed around travel and school activities Key Responsibilities: The tutor will be expected to: * Teach English to a 7-year-old child online * Follow the UK curriculum and age-appropriate expectations * Assess the child’s current level, strengths and learning gaps * Create a clear short-term and longer-term learning plan * Plan engaging, interactive 30-minute lessons * Build reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, spelling and self-expression * Use questioning to encourage thinking and explanation * Help the child develop confidence, curiosity and independence * Provide regular feedback to parents on progress * Recommend suitable books, activities or resources where useful Teaching Style: We are looking for a tutor who is warm, encouraging and engaging, while still able to maintain focus and structure. Lessons should be interactive and discussion-led, with the child actively thinking, explaining and participating. We are particularly interested in someone who asks questions such as: * “How do you know?” * “Can you explain your thinking?” * “Can you think of another way to say that?” * “What makes you think that?” * “Can you convince me using evidence from the text?” Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have: * Strong experience teaching or tutoring children of a similar age * Experience with the UK curriculum, ideally KS1 or lower KS2 * Experience with international schools or international curricula * Excellent English subject knowledge * A strong understanding of how young children learn * A warm, confident and professional manner * The ability to challenge able pupils while keeping lessons enjoyable * Excellent communication skills with both children and parents * Strong references Applicants should ideally have a current or recent **DBS check**, or be willing to provide equivalent safeguarding/background checks where applicable. Application Process Suitable applicants may be asked to have an initial call to discuss their experience, approach, availability and suitability for the role. Ahead of the call, candidates should be prepared to explain how they would assess a 7-year-old’s current English level, structure a typical 30-minute online lesson, and approach the first month of tutoring. How to Apply Please send: * A short introduction about yourself * Your English teaching or tutoring experience * Details of any UK curriculum experience * Details of any international school or curriculum experience * A brief explanation of how you would assess the child’s current level and create a learning plan We are looking for someone experienced, trustworthy and engaging, who can build a positive long-term learning relationship with the child.
