**Job Description:** We are embarking on an exciting project to build a sophisticated database that will provide comprehensive environmental reports tailored to specific locations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in database management, particularly with PostgreSQL and PostGIS, and will have substantial experience in working with property addresses and environmental datasets. The datasets are mainly in the geojson and shapefile format. ### Scope of Work **Database Design** - **Architecture Development:** Design a scalable and robust PostgreSQL/PostGIS database architecture that can efficiently handle a variety of geospatial data types and queries. - **Table Creation and Relationships:** Create and define tables, establish relationships between them, and develop spatial indexes to optimize query performance and data retrieval. - **Future-Proofing:** Ensure that the database structure is flexible and can easily accommodate future data sources and automation processes, allowing for seamless integration of new datasets as they become available. **Data Integration** - **Initial Data Import:** Import a select number of critical environmental datasets, initially focusing on 2 to 5 layers, which may include: - Flood zones - Wildfire risk areas - Historical wildfire events - Contaminated sites - Additional environmental datasets to be determined based on project needs and stakeholder input. - **Data Validation:** Conduct thorough validation and quality checks on the imported datasets to ensure accuracy and reliability for subsequent analysis. **Spatial Risk Analysis** - **Query Development:** Develop a suite of SQL queries and workflows designed to: - Accurately determine whether a given property falls within designated risk zones. - Calculate various risk indicators within specified distances (1 km, 5 km, and 10 km) from property addresses, providing a nuanced understanding of environmental threats. - Generate straightforward risk classifications or scores to facilitate easy interpretation and decision-making by users. **Documentation** - **Comprehensive Documentation:** Provide thorough documentation that covers: - Detailed database schema outlining table structures and relationships. - Clear data import procedures to guide future data integration efforts. - Sample SQL queries to demonstrate functionality and usage. - Strategic recommendations for future automation and expansion of the database capabilities. ### Deliverables - **Fully Functional Database:** A complete and operational PostgreSQL/PostGIS database that meets all outlined specifications. - **Sample Datasets:** A set of imported sample datasets that illustrate the database’s capabilities and functionality. - **Spatial Analysis Queries:** A collection of spatial analysis queries that can be utilized to assess environmental risks effectively. - **Documentation and Setup Instructions:** A comprehensive guide including all relevant documentation and instructions for database setup and usage. ### Required Skills - Proficiency in PostgreSQL - Expertise in PostGIS - Strong understanding of Spatial SQL - Experience in GIS and geospatial data management - Familiarity with QGIS for data visualization and analysis ### Preferred Skills - Proficiency in Python for data manipulation and automation - Knowledge of GDAL/OGR for geospatial data processing - Experience working with environmental or climate-related datasets - Previous work with government open data sources, showcasing the ability to navigate and utilize publicly available information effectively. ### Please Include in Your Proposal - Examples of similar geospatial database projects you have successfully completed, highlighting your specific contributions and outcomes. - An estimated timeline for the completion of the project milestones and deliverables. - A fixed-price quote or an estimated number of hours required to complete the project, allowing us to assess budgetary alignment.
