Experienced Freelance Book Editor for Western Fiction (Developmental, Line & Copy Editing)

Dusty Saddle Publishing (DSP) is a leading independent Western fiction imprint driving the 2020s revival. We’re scaling fast with high-volume series (e.g., America250), author acquisitions. We need reliable freelance editors for full novels—developmental, line, and copy editing—with a focus on maintaining authentic Western voice, pacing, historical flavor, and bestseller quality. Responsibilities: • Developmental edits: Strengthen plot, characters, structure, and genre tropes. • Line edits: Refine prose, dialogue, flow, and tension while preserving author style. • Copy/proofreading: Grammar, consistency, punctuation, and period details. • Fast turnarounds for our production pipeline (multiple titles/month). Requirements: • 2+ years fiction editing experience (Western, historical, or action/adventure preferred). • Familiarity with Western genre elements: cowboy culture, 19th-century settings, authentic dialogue, and tropes. • Strong storytelling instincts and eagle-eye for consistency. • Comfort working with Track Changes in Word/Google Docs. • Ability to deliver high-quality work under deadline pressure. • Portfolio/samples required (test edit will be part of selection). Budget: Payment is $100 per project. Long-term collaboration preferred for our expanding lineup.
