Expert Mechanical / Industrial Designer Needed for New Consumer Product Development

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Mechanical/Industrial Designer to lead the physical development of a new consumer product. The product is a self-stabilizing eating utensil designed for individuals with Parkinson's or essential hand tremors. We have a initial requirements finalized and need a professional to translate this into a functional, aesthetically pleasing, and manufacturable design. The ideal candidate will have a strong portfolio in consumer goods, a deep understanding of Design for Manufacturing, and a keen eye for modern industrial design. Key Responsibilities • Concept Development: Translate our initial ideas and functional requirements into polished industrial design concepts. • 3D CAD Modeling: Create highly detailed and precise 3D mechanical models suitable for prototyping and eventual mass production. • Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Ensure the design is optimized for manufacturing processes, specifically injection molding. • Prototyping Support: Prepare files for rapid prototyping (3D printing/CNC) and iterate on the design based on physical testing feedback. • Component Sourcing: Assist in selecting appropriate off-the-shelf mechanical components if required. Required Skills & Qualifications • Proven experience in taking consumer products from concept to production. • Expert proficiency in industry-standard CAD software. • Strong understanding of materials (plastics, metals, silicones) and their manufacturing constraints. • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work iteratively based on feedback. Required Deliverables • Initial industrial design concept renders (for aesthetic approval). • Native 3D CAD files and universally compatible formats (STEP, IGES). • 2D technical drawings with proper tolerances (GD&T) for the manufacturer. • A Bill of Materials (BOM) for all mechanical parts.
