Founding Fractional CFO | Fine Jewelry Startup

About Us: We are a U.S.-based fine jewelry startup building the financial foundation for our next stage of growth. We’re looking for a Founding Fractional CFO who enjoys building from the ground up—not maintaining an already mature finance department. You’ll work closely with the Founder, Fractional COO, and Operations Manager to design the company’s financial foundation. This role is focused on financial strategy, accounting methodologies, and scalable financial infrastructure, while the operations team will lead implementation and documentation. Project Objective: This engagement is focused on designing a scalable financial framework for the business—not cleaning up historical records or documenting operational processes. The selected CFO will provide financial strategy, accounting methodologies, and recommendations that will be implemented by our internal operations team. Responsibilities: Design a scalable Chart of Accounts for QuickBooks Online. Build a practical FP&A model, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial reporting. Develop a financial methodology for COGS, inventory valuation, and gross margin reporting. Develop pricing methodologies for: Gold jewelry Lab-grown diamond jewelry Custom jewelry Recommend the appropriate accounting treatment for custom-order transactions, including deposits, production costs, final payments, and revenue recognition. Recommend the appropriate accounting structure for inventory transfers between affiliated companies operating in separate countries. Provide guidance on intercompany accounting, including inventory transfers, receivables, payables, transfer pricing considerations, and profit allocation methodologies. Recommend best practices for managing inventory and financial reporting across multiple legal entities. Provide recommendations on accounting, tax, customs, and compliance considerations that should be reviewed with the company’s CPA or legal advisors. Expected Deliverables: Financial Blueprint outlining recommended financial methodologies, accounting policies, and implementation recommendations. Chart of Accounts structure. FP&A model. Inventory accounting methodology. Intercompany accounting framework. Pricing methodology. Custom-order accounting methodology. Advisory sessions to review recommendations and answer implementation questions. Required Qualifications: Previous experience as a Fractional CFO, CFO, Finance Director, or senior financial consultant. Experience supporting U.S.-based startups or founder-led businesses. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP. Experience with: FP&A Inventory accounting COGS Gross margin analysis Cash flow management Experience building financial systems from the ground up. Experience with QuickBooks Online. Understanding of U.S. tax reporting requirements and experience collaborating with CPAs. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the fine jewelry industry. Experience pricing gold and lab-grown diamond jewelry. Experience with custom jewelry manufacturing. Experience with inventory-heavy retail businesses. Experience with intercompany accounting and inventory transfers. Experience with Lightspeed Retail POS.
