Fractional Controller (Manufacturing, Retail & E-Commerce)

We are a growing consumer products company that designs, manufactures, and sells premium children's products through multiple channels including Amazon, Shopify, Walmart, Target, and specialty retailers. As we continue to scale, we're looking for an experienced Controller to help strengthen our financial reporting, improve accounting processes, and support leadership with accurate financial information. This is an ongoing fractional role requiring approximately 4-6 days per month for monthly financial close activities, plus additional support leading up to our fiscal year-end (June 30), estimated at approximately 30 hours at the end of the fiscal year. (So in July). There is significant opportunity to grow with the company as our business expands. The Ideal Candidate You are a trained accountant with strong experience in: * Manufacturing accounting * Retail and e-commerce businesses * Omni-channel brands * Inventory accounting and costing * Financial reporting and month-end close processes * QuickBooks * ERP systems Experience working with Target or other major retailers is considered a strong asset. Key Responsibilities Month-End Close & Financial Oversight * Ensure monthly financial statements are closed and finalized by the 7th business day of each month. * Confirm all sales, expenses, accruals, and adjustments are recorded in the correct accounting period. * Review financial results and investigate unusual variances. Inventory & Cost Accounting * Review inventory adjustments and reconciliations. * Ensure inventory counts and valuations are accurate. * Monitor inventory accounting processes and identify opportunities for improvement. Compliance & Reporting * Assist with HST filings and related compliance requirements. * Review and reconcile major balance sheet accounts including: * Loans * Prepaids * Accounts payable * Accruals * Other key balance sheet accounts * Ensure clearing and suspense accounts are reconciled, cleared, and properly explained. Retailer Accounting * Support retailer audits and information requests. * Assist with retailer reconciliations and deductions management. * Help ensure financial records align with retailer reporting. Financial Analysis & Management Reporting * Review profit and loss statements for accuracy and reasonableness. * Develop meaningful management reporting by: * Sales channel * Product category * Product SKU * Help build and maintain live financial dashboards for leadership. Year-End Support * Help prepare accurate year-end working papers. * Improve accounting processes to reduce external accounting and audit costs. * Work closely with management and external accountants to support year-end financial statement preparation. Qualifications * CPA designation is required. * 5+ years of accounting or controller experience. * Strong understanding of inventory accounting and manufacturing environments. * Experience with retail and e-commerce accounting. * Advanced QuickBooks knowledge required. * Experience working with ERP systems. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
