Freelance Technical Editor and Writer

Summary We are seeking experienced editors to support fast-turnaround editing of professional documents prepared for intergovernmental organisations. This is time-sensitive work, and we are looking for editors who are reliable, responsive, and able to deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines. About the Role You will edit documents averaging around 20-30 pages, with turnaround times of approximately 1–2 days per document. Work will be assigned as documents come in, so the ability to deliver quickly and consistently is essential. Responsibilities Conduct substantive (Level II) editing of documents and annexes Refine language to ensure clarity, accuracy, and accessibility for a global audience Strengthen structure, transitions, and logical flow throughout Ensure consistency in terminology, tone, and formatting in line with intergovernmental style guidelines Track and harmonise references and citations Deliver clean, editable MS Word documents with tracked changes for review Required Skills and Qualifications Proven experience editing documents for intergovernmental, international, or NGO-sector organisations Exceptional written English and a high attention to detail Strong ability to work with complex materials and improve structure and readability Ability to work to a defined style guide Capacity to deliver to tight turnaround times (1–2 days per document) Reliable and prompt communication Background in scientific, biomedical, or public health content is a plus Familiarity with AI-based editing tools (e.g. Claude) is a plus Time Zone A time zone that can cover the morning shift (i.e. ahead of Central European Time) is a preference, to help keep work moving quickly.
