Investigative Records Sourcing: Police Bodycam & FOIA for True Crime Channel
Worldwide
Summary We run a YouTube media company focused on true crime and investigative content, watched by millions. We are looking for an experienced public records specialist to join our team and help us consistently obtain law enforcement records across the US. What you'll do: Draft and submit state public records requests (Sunshine laws, CPRA, Chapter 119, etc.) to local police departments and sheriff's offices. Track every request, follow up persistently, and push back on wrongful denials or over-redactions. Help identify the right local jurisdiction and agency for each case we are researching. Secure bodycam footage, dashcam video, interview room audio, and incident reports for our production team. The core of the role: The difference between a good records specialist and a great one is getting every piece of footage released, even when agencies deny, over-redact, or quietly leave things out. We need someone who reads police reports closely to identify every officer, unit, and vehicle involved, then cross-references that data against what was actually released. Someone who flags missing bodycam, dashcam, or 911 audio and files aggressive follow-ups to obtain it. Someone with a proven track record of overturning denials and getting redacted footage released in fuller form. What great looks like: * Proven experience obtaining records specifically from local and state law enforcement agencies. * Deep understanding of varying state public records retention and disclosure laws. * Highly organized layout for tracking dozens of active requests without dropping the ball. * Professional, relentless persistence when dealing with uncooperative records clerks. * Bonus points for a legal, investigative, or journalism background. Why join us? Your requests don't sit in a folder. They turn into highly compelling videos watched by millions. Compensation: Hourly or per-request pricing, your preference. Part-time to start with room to grow as our case volume increases. To Apply: Please message us with a brief summary of your public records experience, your preferred rates, and your answer to this question: What is your go-to strategy when a local police department issues a blanket denial claiming a video is part of an "active investigation" even though the suspect has already been sentenced?
