Summary

ABOUT THE WORK We are a small Australian digital agency. We build websites and write content for local service businesses across Australia. This is a deliberately small paid trial. We publish client web copy every month and want one editor to work with ongoing. THE JOB A line edit of two service pages for a fitness business in regional New South Wales: • Page one: approx 1,480 words (9 short service blocks plus 6 FAQs) • Page two: approx 1,030 words (5 short service blocks plus 5 FAQs) Approx 2,500 words total. WHAT WE ARE ACTUALLY ASKING FOR This is a line edit with real licence, not a proofread. The drafts are already clean. There are no typos or grammar errors to find, and a proofreader would hand these back near-untouched. What we want is for the copy to come back genuinely engaging: sharper, more human, more persuasive, better to read. Use your editorial judgement. If a section is flat, fix it. If a passage reads samey, vary it. If a sentence isn't earning its place, cut it. If an opening doesn't hook, rewrite it. You know what makes web copy work, and we want you to apply that rather than just tidy what's there. WHAT WE DON'T WANT • A proofread. The copy is already error-free. • A generic smoothing pass. The specific detail is the best thing about this copy: local suburb names, the coaches' real backgrounds, actual client examples. Keep all of it. Do not sand it down into interchangeable fitness copy. • A rewrite from scratch. We need to see your edit, change by change. AUSTRALIAN ENGLISH, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY The copy is ALREADY written in Australian English and Australian idiom. Your job is to PRESERVE that, not to add it. Do not Americanise spelling (use -ise, not -ize). Do not change "kilometres". Do not touch Australian place names or usage. If you are not confident working in Australian English, this is not the right job for you. DELIVERABLE • Google Doc in Suggesting mode, or .docx with tracked changes • Every change visible so we can accept or reject individually • Short comments where you have made a judgement call, so we understand your reasoning ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA (definition of done) 1. Both documents returned with tracked changes or suggestions, not a clean rewrite 2. The copy reads as noticeably more engaging and persuasive than the draft 3. Australian English spelling and idiom preserved throughout, with zero Americanisms introduced 4. All factual detail retained: suburb names, coach names, qualifications, client examples 5. Each service block stays under approximately 120 words 6. Delivered within 3 days of contract start HOW TO APPLY Start your proposal with the word BANANA so we know you have read this brief in full. Proposals that do not start with that word will not be reviewed. BUDGET AND TIMELINE $25 USD fixed price for both pages, 3 day turnaround. ONGOING WORK We produce client web copy every month and are looking for one editor to work with on an ongoing per-page rate. If this trial goes well, there is steady work available.
