Job Title: Part-time Shopify Developer Location: Remote Job Type: Part-time Job Overview We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Part-Time Shopify Developer to act as our technical partner for an established e-commerce store. This role does not require building large projects from scratch; instead, it focuses on continuous improvement, technical maintenance, and ad-hoc support. You will step in as needed to handle theme updates, minor custom coding, and app troubleshooting. With no fixed monthly hours, you will enjoy high flexibility. Tasks will be assigned on an as-needed basis, and you will typically be given a comfortable window of several days up to two weeks to complete them, making it easy to manage alongside your other projects. Key Responsibilities Theme Maintenance & Updates: Safely manage and execute Shopify theme updates. Ensure that all existing custom code, specific configurations, and app integrations are successfully migrated to newer theme versions without disrupting the live shopping experience. Custom Coding & Feature Enhancements: Write, edit, and optimize code using Shopify Liquid, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript to implement minor UI/UX adjustments, layout modifications, and localized feature enhancements as requested by the team. App Integration & Management: Assist in the installation, configuration, and technical troubleshooting of third-party Shopify apps. Ensure seamless integration with the current theme and proactively clean up residual code when apps are uninstalled to maintain optimal site speed. Performance & Bug Fixing: Proactively identify, investigate, and resolve front-end bugs, responsive design issues, and browser compatibility glitches reported by the team or customers. Technical Consultation: Act as a technical advisor for the e-commerce team. Review requirements for small updates, assess their technical feasibility, and provide accurate time estimations and cost-effective solutions. Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing of all code changes in a staging environment (duplicate theme) across multiple devices (mobile, tablet, desktop) prior to publishing to the live store to ensure a flawless customer experience. Requirements & Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience in web development. Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of proven hands-on experience in Shopify front-end development, specifically focusing on theme customization, maintenance, and bug fixing. Core Technical Skills: Deep understanding and high proficiency in the Shopify Liquid templating language. Solid command of front-end web technologies, including HTML5, CSS3 (Sass/SCSS), and modern JavaScript (Vanilla JS or jQuery). Understanding of Shopify’s Online Store 2.0 (OS 2.0) architecture, JSON templates, sections, and blocks. Strong ability to read, understand, debug, and seamlessly modify existing codebases written by previous developers. Working Style & Soft Skills: High Reliability & Autonomy: Comfortable working independently on an "as-needed" basis with fluctuating workloads. Excellent Time Management: Ability to accurately estimate task durations and consistently deliver high-quality work within the flexible 1-to-2-week deadlines. Clear Communication: Excellent written English skills to communicate technical issues, propose solutions, and clarify requirements with non-technical stakeholders. Nice to Have Experience with modern Shopify development tools, such as Shopify CLI and version control (Git/GitHub) for safe deployments. Familiarity with web accessibility guidelines (WCAG) and technical SEO best practices. Basic understanding of UI/UX design principles to ensure any small visual customizations align perfectly with the store's existing brand identity.
