MT5 desktop won't connect to broker feed on Mac (Fortinet content filter suspected)
Worldwide
Hello, I need someone experienced to jump on a short screen-share call and fix a MetaTrader 5 connectivity issue on my Mac. I'll share my screen; you diagnose and fix live. This is a networking/platform problem, not a trading question. I need a specialist who has solved this exact type of issue before — not someone who will experiment on my machine. Please only apply if you've dealt with MT5 desktop connectivity and endpoint-security/content-filter conflicts specifically. The setup: MetaTrader 5 desktop, running on macOS (the Mac build runs through a Wine/CrossOver compatibility layer) Broker: to be revealed on the call The account is logged in and recognised — Navigator shows the account connected The exact symptom: MT5 shows the account correctly but the data feed is dead — connection status reads "0 / 0 Kb" (no data in/out) In Market Watch, only one cached symbol shows a price; all others (indices, gold) sit greyed with no Bid/Ask Charts open but won't draw candles — no live data Symbols I expect (e.g. US30/Dow) don't appear in the symbol tree, consistent with a partial/failed feed What I've already tried (so you can skip it): Confirmed correct server selected (was defaulted to MetaQuotes-Demo, switched to HFMarketsSA-Demo2) Confirmed correct login and password — account authenticates fine Explicit re-login via Navigator → Login to Trade Account Full quit and relaunch of MT5 Checked VPN (off/disconnected) Found a Fortinet content filter (com.fortinet…) enabled under macOS System Settings → Network → VPN & Filters; disabled it — feed still 0/0 Kb Have not yet: fully quit the Fortinet process (vs. just toggling the filter), checked/added a Mac firewall exception for MT5, or added a Fortinet allow-rule for MT5/HFM servers Strong suspicion: the Fortinet endpoint security is still intercepting MT5's connection even with the filter toggled off, and needs a proper exception rule or a full shutdown — but I want someone who knows this terrain to confirm and fix it correctly (I'd rather add a proper exception than leave security off). What success looks like: MT5 desktop connects, connection status shows live data flowing (Kb counting up) All my symbols (US30/Dow, Nasdaq/ND100m, XAUUSD/Gold) stream live Bid/Ask and charts draw A clean, permanent fix — ideally a Fortinet/firewall exception so it survives reboots, not security left disabled You explain what the cause was so I understand it Please include in your proposal: One or two specific times you've fixed MT5 desktop feed/connection issues, ideally involving endpoint security (Fortinet/corporate filters) or the macOS Wine build Your read on the likely cause from the above Your availability for a call today/tomorrow (I'm in South Africa, SAST timezone) Short call, quick turnaround, paid for the fix. Fixed price needed pls Pls note - everything works on my mobile (iphone) Thanks
