Manuscript Readability & Coherence Edit (AI-Assisted) We are a UK-based independent publishing company seeking an editor for a practical, fast-turnaround manuscript coherence pass on a completed book manuscript. This role is specifically designed for an editor who is comfortable working in a modern AI-assisted editorial workflow (e.g. Claude or similar tools) to improve clarity, structure, and readability at sentence and paragraph level. Project Overview The manuscript contains strong ideas and content, but requires a focused editorial pass to: improve paragraph-level coherence strengthen readability and flow clarify sentence structure where needed improve transitions between ideas reduce repetition and improve clarity of expression bring the manuscript into a consistent, readable form for final copy-editing The objective is to make the manuscript read smoothly and coherently while preserving the author’s original voice and intent. Important Note on Workflow We are specifically looking for someone who: is comfortable using AI tools (e.g. Claude) as part of their editorial process uses AI to assist with restructuring, rewriting, and clarity improvements applies strong human editorial judgement to refine and finalise all changes The expectation is not manual line-by-line rewriting in isolation, but an efficient, AI-assisted editorial pass guided by professional judgement. Scope of Work The editor will: revise and restructure paragraphs for clarity and flow improve sentence-level readability strengthen coherence between ideas smooth transitions across sections lightly rewrite where necessary to improve comprehension ensure the manuscript reads as a consistent, polished draft ready for final copy-editing This is a hands-on editorial clean-up focused on readability rather than deep structural redevelopment or critical analysis. Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who: has experience in line editing or manuscript refinement is comfortable working with AI-assisted workflows (Claude or similar) can quickly improve clarity and coherence in long-form writing has strong judgement for tone, flow, and readability is efficient and comfortable working to a fixed budget and timeline Traditional developmental editing or purely manual literary editing experience is not required for this role.
