Mechanical Design Engineer - Pediatric Cannula Clip CAD Model
Worldwide
Mechanical Design Engineer – Pediatric Headband Cannula Clip (TPU Snap-Fit Product) Project Overview I’m seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer to develop a compact, 3D-printable clip that attaches pediatric oxygen cannula tubing to a soft fabric headband. The objective is to eliminate the need for adhesive facial stickers by securely supporting the tubing with a lightweight, low-profile clip. This project is for a personal proof-of-concept. The initial goal is a functional prototype suitable for FDM printing in TPU, with the potential for additional iterations based on testing. ⸻ Scope of Work The selected engineer will: * Convert a defined concept into a production-quality CAD model. * Optimize the design for TPU snap-fit performance. * Design for FDM 3D printing with minimal support material. * Ensure appropriate flexibility, durability, and comfort. * Incorporate feedback through several design revisions. * Deliver print-ready files and native CAD files. ⸻ Design Requirements Overall * Optimized for TPU 95A * Extremely low profile * Comfortable against an infant’s head Headband Attachment The primary body is a vertical C-clamp. Requirements: * Side-loading installation onto a thin terry-cloth athletic headband * Medium-length curled lips * Curled lips wrap approximately 180–200° around the top and bottom edges of the headband * Long flexible spring fingers provide retention * Thin wall sections to maximize TPU flexibility * Light compression fit on the headband * No enclosed slot or feed-through opening Tube Retention The tube holder is integrated directly into the center of the exterior face of the clamp. Requirements: * Horizontal C-channel * Axis parallel to the headband * Axis parallel to the tubing * Open side faces outward * Tube presses sideways into the channel * Compression fit only * No threading through the clip Tube Channel The tube saddle must be: * Open C-channel * No tunnel * No through-hole * No center rib * No center post * No bridge across the opening Designed around pediatric cannula tubing with an outside diameter of approximately 4.9 mm. Additional models will offer adult and infant sizing. General * Large fillets throughout * Rounded edges * Designed to minimize pressure points * Two mirrored clips will be used per headband ⸻ Deliverables * Native CAD files (SolidWorks preferred, Fusion 360 acceptable) * STEP file * STL files * Engineering drawings with critical dimensions * Design optimized for TPU/FDM printing * Revision history documenting changes ⸻ Preferred Qualifications * Strong background in mechanical product design * Experience designing TPU snap-fit components * Experience with consumer products, wearable products, or medical accessories * Knowledge of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) * Portfolio demonstrating functional snap-fit or compliant mechanism designs ⸻ Proposal Requirements Please include: * Examples of similar snap-fit or wearable products you’ve designed * CAD software used * Estimated timeline * Estimated total cost * Number of revisions included ⸻ Budget Open to proposals. Quality, attention to detail, and experience with functional snap-fit designs are the primary selection criteria. Approximate conceptual image attached. The tube retention channel in the production version should be open to support pressing the tube into the channel running parallel to the headband.
