Mechanical/Product Designer for a 3D-Printable Mobile Robot Chassis
Worldwide
We are building a mobile robot with an existing base, robot arm, GPU, battery, and sensor stack. These components are already selected. We also have a basic URDF for simulation. It shows the general size, shape, and placement of the robot, but it is not a manufacturing design. We need an experienced mechanical or product designer to turn this rough model into a practical upper chassis and enclosure that we can manufacture and assemble. The main work includes: - Design the internal support structure, exterior covers, and component mounts. - Fit the existing arm, computer, battery, sensors, and other fixed components. - Improve component placement where necessary. - Consider strength, balance, cooling, service access, cable routing, and assembly. - Use 3D-printed parts where practical. - Use simple metal plates, brackets, or standard fasteners where they give better support. - Create a clean and approachable form with soft edges and a consumer-product influence. - Give light guidance on wiring, connectors, and power-component placement. This is mainly a mechanical design and CAD project. We do not need component selection, custom electronics, robot software, or control-system development. The contractor will work remotely and will not receive the physical robot components. We can provide the current URDF, available meshes, component specifications, photographs, measurements, and visual examples. The contractor can ask us to verify measurements on the physical hardware when necessary. Expected deliverables: - Editable CAD and a complete STEP assembly - Print-ready files - A basic parts and fastener list - Assembly guidance - Practical component-placement and cable-routing guidance Later changes found during the physical build may become additional work. ## Ideal experience - Mechanical CAD and product design - 3D-printed electromechanical products - Robot chassis, enclosures, or similar hardware - Large multi-part prints, tolerances, inserts, and standard fasteners - Internal load structures and equipment mounting - Clean, practical industrial design
