Native Mandarin Chinese Linguist – Text Normalization / Localization Specialist

**Seeking a Native Mandarin Chinese Speaker for Text Normalization Linguistics Work** **The turn-around time on this project is under 2 weeks** We are seeking a native Mandarin-speaking individual who is detail-oriented, linguistically aware, and passionate about language structure to contribute to cutting-edge work in text normalization for AI speech applications. You will help ensure that test cases are comprehensive and linguistically accurate by expanding abbreviations, formatting dates and numbers into their spoken equivalents, and identifying inconsistencies or edge cases in written-to-spoken text mappings. If you are analytical, have a strong grasp of grammar and syntax, and enjoy working on structured language tasks, we invite you to join our team for this project. * We are looking for a native Mandarin speaker with a high degree of language awareness * You must have excellent attention to detail * You must be comfortable reading and communicating in English, as you will work with an English-speaking manager and follow English-written guidelines * Prior experience with text normalization, linguistic annotation, or language teaching is a plus **Responsibilities:** * Review and create normalized spoken forms of written Mandarin text (e.g. the report is due 12/15 = the report is due twelve fifteen) * Identify patterns in the data and flag edge cases or inconsistencies * Assist in refining normalization rules by evaluating test cases and proposing corrections or improvements * Ensure quality and coverage across diverse sentence structures, date formats, numbers, abbreviations, and more * Collaborate asynchronously with an operations/linguistics team and provide written feedback in English **Qualifications:** * Native speaker of Mandarin Chinese (Mainland China, NOT Taiwanese) * Strong understanding of Mandarin grammar, syntax, and number formatting * Ability to think critically about language data and edge cases * Ability to write language and writing convention rules with clarity * Comfortable with detailed, repetitive linguistic tasks * Able to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines --- **Pay:** $20/–$65/hour, depending on experience. Work will be conducted via UpWork with an hourly tracker. We expect a balance of accuracy and efficiency, with support and guidance provided throughout the project.
