Summary

About Us We're a mechanical engineering and product development consultancy in Michigan. We design a wide range of physical products: consumer devices, industrial equipment, machined parts, weldments, molded parts, sheet metal, you name it. Different parts, different processes, every month. The Work You'll take our released CAD models and produce manufacturing drawings that suppliers can quote and build from without a dozen clarification emails. We have a written internal drawing standard and we'll hand it to you on day one. It's short, it's philosophy-driven, and if you're the right person you'll read it and nod. Who We're Looking For Someone who treats a drawing as a contract with the supplier. Every callout on the page is something we're willing to reject parts over. If you wouldn't reject a part for it, it doesn't belong on the drawing. That means you: Tolerance based on what the part actually does, not what the CAD software lets you type Know what different manufacturing processes naturally produce, and tolerance against the process instead of against fantasy Use the title block for general tolerances and reserve explicit callouts for features that genuinely matter Understand GD&T well enough to know when NOT to use it Know when a fit is already guaranteed by standard stock and doesn't need a callout at all Ask about the application and the manufacturing method before you draw anything Who We're NOT Looking For People who tolerance every dimension to three decimals "to be safe." That's not safe, it's expensive, and it tells us you don't understand the part People who stack GD&T on a bracket like it's going to space Drawing mills that crank out dimension dumps with zero thought about function Anyone who needs the same feedback explained twice Requirements Strong portfolio of manufacturing drawings across multiple processes (machining, sheet metal, weldments, molding, etc.) ASME Y14.5 fluency Proficiency in mainstream mechanical CAD Responsive communication and the ability to ask good questions before drawing, not after To Apply Skip the generic cover letter. Instead, answer this in your proposal: "Describe a situation where the right move was to NOT put a tolerance or callout on a drawing, and why." If your answer shows real judgment, we'll talk. Attach 2-3 sample drawings you're proud of (redact client info as needed). We pay fairly, give clear feedback, and have steady work for someone who gets it. Talent like this is rare and we know it. If that's you, we want a long-term relationship, not a one-off gig. It is highly preferred that you use Onshape. Please mention whether you use Onshape and whether you have a legitimate Onshape license.
