Part-Time Technical Customer Support Engineer

Part-Time Technical Support Engineer (Remote) Approx. 2 hours per day | Monday-Friday | Long-term Position We are looking for a reliable, engineering-minded person to become the primary technical contact for our customers. This is not a general customer service role. We are looking for someone with an engineering, manufacturing or technical background who enjoys helping customers solve technical problems. Our company designs and supplies scientific engineering equipment including pellet press die sets, hydraulic presses, cold isostatic presses and related laboratory equipment. Full product training will be provided. Working Hours - Approximately 2 hours per day - Monday to Friday - Ideally available during US morning business hours (or please propose other daily hours) - Long-term ongoing role About the Role: -Your primary responsibility will be responding to customer emails and helping customers select the right products. -This is a technical support role rather than a sales role. Every day you'll be reading customer enquiries, interpreting engineering drawings, asking the right technical questions and helping move enquiries through to quotation. Typical tasks include: -Responding to technical customer emails -Reading customer drawings and specifications -Identifying missing information before quotations are prepared -Asking customers follow-up technical questions -Extracting technical information for our quotation team -Learning our products and helping customers choose suitable options -Using AI tools and our internal knowledge base to research technical questions -Occasionally opening CAD files to check dimensions or review customer designs -Occasionally making small drawing modifications if required You will also work alongside another team member who provides administrative support, allowing you to focus on the technical aspects of customer enquiries. Ideal Background We are looking for someone with experience in one or more of the following: Mechanical Engineering Manufacturing Engineering Engineering Technology Mechanical Design Industrial Engineering Product Design Manufacturing or Machine Shop environments Technical Customer Support Technical Sales or Applications Engineering Recent graduates and final-year engineering students are encouraged to apply, particularly if you have also worked in a customer-facing role. Skills Required -Excellent written English -Strong attention to detail -Comfortable reading engineering drawings -Able to work confidently with both metric and imperial measurements -Comfortable learning technical products -Able to think through technical problems before escalating them -Organised and responsive when dealing with customer enquiries -Comfortable using AI tools such as ChatGPT to assist with research and technical information Some experience with CAD software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks or AutoCAD is required. You do not need to be an experienced CAD designer, but you should be comfortable opening drawings, viewing models, checking dimensions and interpreting engineering drawings. We'll teach you our products. We can't teach curiosity, initiative and ownership. Pay Our budget is generally around USD $18/hour, depending on your experience and background.
