Plant Genetics / Genomics Expert for Urgent Marker-Assay Accuracy Review
Only freelancers located in the U.S. may apply.U.S. located freelancers only
We are seeking an experienced plant genetics or plant genomics scientist for a short, confidential scientific-accuracy review of six bounded statements in a technical document. This is not a request to design an assay, conduct a general literature review, analyze a new dataset, rewrite the document, or provide patent or legal advice. The review concerns: * Marker-assay and genetic-marker terminology, including SNP and SSR/STR approaches; * Sample quality, contamination, degradation, missingness, no-calls, dropout, and analytical failure; * Scientific qualification of reference specimens and profiles; * The distinct meanings of similarity, assignment, evidence strength, confidence, relationship, and nonconclusion; * Appropriate qualification of confidence and threshold language; * Retesting, method changes, and result comparability. The selected consultant will receive a controlled packet containing exact excerpts, limited technical figures, and a structured response matrix after engagement and confirmation of confidentiality. The deliverable is a completed six-question response matrix with a concise written explanation, ordinarily 2–4 pages. For each statement, the reviewer will indicate whether it: * Presents no scientific objection; * Requires a specific qualification; * Cannot be assessed without identified inputs or data; * Is scientifically inaccurate or materially misleading; or * Falls outside the reviewer’s expertise. For any concern, the reviewer should identify: * The exact affected statement; * The scientific reason; * The minimum necessary qualification; * Any missing project-specific inputs or data; * Whether empirical validation is required; and * Whether the issue affects current scientific accuracy or represents later implementation and validation work. Required qualifications: * Advanced training or substantial professional experience in plant genetics, plant genomics, or a closely related field; * Experience with genetic-marker assays, genotyping, or marker-panel validation; * Familiarity with SNP and/or SSR/STR methods; * Understanding of assay quality, missing data, reference qualification, statistical interpretation, or cross-method comparability; * Strong, concise technical writing. Experience involving cultivar identification, crop identity, statistical genetics, or bioinformatics is preferred. The assignment is expected to require approximately 4–6 hours of focused review by a qualified specialist. The consultant must be able to begin immediately and return the completed response within 12–18 hours after receiving the packet. This is a fixed-price, one-milestone engagement with a budget of $1,000. Payment is for a complete, independent scientific review and is not contingent on reaching a favorable conclusion. To apply, please provide: 1. Your most relevant plant-genetics or marker-assay project; 2. One or two relevant publications, reports, or professional examples; 3. Your experience with assay validation, missingness, no-calls, dropout, reference data, or result comparability; 4. Confirmation that you can begin immediately and meet the requested turnaround; 5. Any potential conflict involving crop genetics, cultivar identification, seed or genetics registries, or related commercial platforms. Please focus your proposal on directly relevant scientific experience rather than general scientific writing.
