About the Company We're a B2B distributor of medical, industrial, and veterinary supplies based in Minnesota. Our team operates on a Microsoft-first stack — Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) as our ERP, SalesPad for order management, SQL Server as our data backbone, and Microsoft 365 across the organization. We're building out a reporting and analytics function to give our sales team and leadership better visibility into the business. What We're Building We need an experienced Power BI developer to work alongside our internal data specialist and sales team to design, build, and deliver a suite of operational dashboards. This is a hands-on development role — you'll be writing DAX, building data models, and working directly with SQL Server as your data source. Initial dashboards will include: Sales by item, item category, and product line Sales by customer and customer segment Sales by rep and sales territory Order volume and revenue trends over time Year-over-year and period-over-period comparisons Item cross reference self-service tools Your Responsibilities Connect Power BI Desktop to SQL Server (via ODBC/DirectQuery or import mode) and build clean, performant data models Write T-SQL queries and views against Dynamics GP tables (SOP, RM, IV modules) and SalesPad tables as the reporting layer Collaborate with our internal data specialist on schema, table relationships, and data definitions Work with our sales team to understand reporting requirements and translate them into dashboard designs Build and publish reports to Power BI Service for sharing across the organization Document your data models, measures, and report logic so work is maintainable internally Required Skills & Experience 3+ years of Power BI development experience (Desktop + Service) Strong T-SQL — you'll be writing queries against GP's table structure (SOP30200, RM00101, IV00101, etc.), not just connecting to a clean data warehouse Experience building star-schema or similar data models in Power BI Proficient in DAX for calculated measures, time intelligence, and KPIs Comfortable working directly with source ERP databases — no pre-built connectors here Strong communication skills — you'll need to translate business questions into data requirements Nice to Have Prior experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP or similar ERP (SAP B1, Sage, Acumatica) Familiarity with SalesPad or distribution/supply chain business processes Experience with Power BI incremental refresh and row-level security (RLS) Experience publishing to Power BI Service and scheduling dataset refreshes
