Our content covers: Canadian politics Federal elections Parliament Government policies Breaking political news Political scandals Public figures Current events affecting Canadians We're building a premium news brand, so we need someone who understands how to write scripts that keep viewers watching from beginning to end. Editing & Storytelling Style (Model Channels) We want scripts written in a style similar to channels such as: Northern Perspective Juno News True North The Faulkner Show William Reports Julian News Report These channels are examples of the pacing, storytelling, audience retention, and presentation style we're looking for—not content to copy. We expect original research and writing every time. What You'll Do Write 10–15 minute YouTube scripts (approximately 1,500–2,300 words) Research Canadian political news from multiple reliable sources Turn complex political topics into engaging, easy-to-understand stories Create powerful hooks that grab attention within the first 15–30 seconds Structure every script for maximum audience retention Maintain factual accuracy while making stories entertaining and engaging Meet deadlines consistently We're Looking For Someone Who: Has proven experience writing political or news scripts Has a strong understanding of Canadian politics Can independently research breaking news and verify information Knows how to write for YouTube retention (hooks, curiosity gaps, pacing, cliffhangers, smooth transitions) Writes in a conversational, natural tone—not robotic or academic Can simplify complicated political topics for everyday viewers Is reliable, communicates well, and is looking for a long-term position Bonus Qualifications Experience writing scripts for YouTube channels with 100K+ subscribers Familiarity with Canadian elections, Parliament, federal agencies, and political figures Understanding of YouTube analytics and audience retention Ability to suggest viral video ideas and titles What Every Script Should Include A strong opening hook Clear storytelling from beginning to end High-retention pacing Smooth transitions between sections Well-researched facts from credible sources A compelling conclusion that encourages viewers to watch another video To Apply Please include: Begin your proposal with "MAPLE" Links to political/news scripts you've written Tell us about your experience covering Canadian politics or current events Your rate per script (or per word) Your favorite Canadian political YouTube channel and why Tell us why you're interested in working with us long term If you don't have experience writing political or news content, this position likely isn't the right fit.
