Project Accountant for Public Accounting Firm

Project Accountant (Independent Contractor) Location: United States Only (Remote) Type: Independent Contractor / Project-Based Hours: Variable (5–40+ hours per month depending on project volume) About Silver Peaks Accounting Silver Peaks Accounting is a rapidly growing advisory-focused accounting firm serving law firms across the United States. We specialize in bookkeeping, accounting, CFO services, and strategic tax planning. We are seeking a Project Accountant to support special projects, client onboarding engagements, accounting cleanups, and historical reconciliation work. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving accounting puzzles, organizing messy financials, and bringing order to complex situations. What You’ll Do Projects may include: * Historical account reconciliations * Catch-up bookkeeping * Accounting cleanups * Chart of accounts redesign and optimization * New client onboarding projects * Financial data organization and review * QuickBooks Online cleanup and restructuring * Special accounting projects as needed This is not a recurring monthly bookkeeping role. Most assignments will be project-based with clearly defined objectives and timelines. Ideal Candidate You may be a great fit if you: * Enjoy cleanup and investigative accounting work * Like solving complex accounting problems * Can work independently with minimal supervision * Have strong attention to detail * Communicate proactively and professionally * Are comfortable estimating project timelines and identifying risks * Take ownership of projects and follow through to completion Qualifications Required: * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting * 3+ years of accounting experience * Strong QuickBooks Online experience * Experience performing account reconciliations * Experience cleaning up accounting records * Strong written and verbal communication skills * U.S.-based Preferred: * Public accounting or accounting firm experience * Professional services industry experience * Experience onboarding new clients * CPA license or CPA candidate Compensation * Competitive hourly contractor rate * Project-based work * Flexible schedule * Potential for ongoing engagements as project volume grows Why This Role Is Different Our recurring bookkeeping and accounting work is handled by our core delivery team.
