RSMeans Tutor / Mentor for Hands-On Cost Estimating Practice (MEP / Electrical Focus)

Summary

I'm a practicing electrical and MEP engineer looking to build practical proficiency in RSMeans for construction cost estimating. I learn best by doing, so I've set up a small project to practice on and I'm looking for someone experienced to guide me through it. What I'm looking to learn: Navigating RSMeans Data Online efficiently (unit cost lines, assemblies, square foot estimating) Building a clean estimate from scope to bottom line, including location and time adjustments (city cost indexes, escalation) Applying the right crews, overhead, and markups so my numbers hold up Sanity-checking results and understanding where RSMeans is reliable versus where judgment is needed MEP and electrical line items specifically, since that's my discipline The project: A small practice estimate I'm working through on my own. I don't need you to do the work for me. I want to learn the workflow and reasoning by building it alongside you, then have you review what I produce and point out what I got wrong. Ideal candidate: Strong hands-on experience with RSMeans Data Online (not just familiarity) Background in cost estimating, construction management, or MEP/electrical estimating Able to explain the "why" behind the numbers, not just the clicks Comfortable teaching over a Zoom call with screen share Format and logistics: This will be done over Zoom with screen share. It could be a few live sessions, or a session or two paired with async review of my estimate, whatever you think works best. Please tell me how you'd structure it and roughly how many hours you'd expect it to take. In your proposal, please share a brief example of RSMeans work you've done and how you'd approach getting someone up to speed quickly.
