Remote Nextcloud Installation Specialist – Customer-Managed Infrastructure

Job Overview We are looking for an experienced Nextcloud specialist / Linux system administrator to remotely install, configure, and document a Nextcloud environment on our customer-managed infrastructure. This is a fully remote IT administration project. No onsite visit or physical work is required. We will provide approved remote access to our infrastructure and coordinate the work with our internal technical team. Our primary focus is secure file sharing, collaboration features, Microsoft/Active Directory-related integrations, backup/restore design, and secure external publishing through our existing WAF setup. Timezone / Availability Our team operates in Sarajevo time zone (CET/CEST). The freelancer should have either: • Minimum 3 hours of working-time overlap with our team, or • Willingness to perform scheduled work during 09:00–15:00 Sarajevo time when needed for implementation, testing, and coordination. Scope of Work The project includes the following tasks: 1. Nextcloud installation and configuration o Install and configure Nextcloud on our infrastructure. o Configure PostgreSQL as the database backend. o Evaluate and support a possible two-VM design:  one VM for the Nextcloud application,  one VM for the PostgreSQL database. o Configure required system components such as web server, PHP, caching, background jobs, and recommended Nextcloud performance settings. 2. File sharing and collaboration o Configure Nextcloud primarily for secure file sharing and collaboration. o Review and enable relevant Nextcloud apps/features based on our requirements. o Assess collaboration options and recommend the best setup for our environment. 3. Microsoft / directory integrations o Review and configure relevant Nextcloud Microsoft integration options, including Active Directory / LDAP-related integration where applicable. o Reference area: Nextcloud Microsoft integrations and AD integration capabilities. o Provide recommendations on what should be implemented immediately and what should be planned as a later phase. 4. WAF publishing coordination o Work together with our WAF administrator to publish external access securely through our existing WAF. o The goal is to allow secure external access only for authorized/authenticated users or devices, according to our security requirements. o The freelancer is expected to support the application-side configuration and provide technical requirements for the WAF administrator. 5. Backup and restore design o Define a proper backup approach for the Nextcloud system. o Cover application data, PostgreSQL database, configuration files, and any required system components. o Document restore options and recovery scenarios. o Explain available options, limitations, and recommended best practices. 6. Documentation and handover o Provide clear technical documentation of the installation. o Document configuration steps, dependencies, backup/restore procedure, and operational recommendations. o Provide a short handover session or written summary for our internal team. Required Experience The ideal freelancer should have experience with: • Nextcloud installation and administration • Linux server administration • PostgreSQL • Web server configuration, such as Nginx or Apache • PHP / PHP-FPM tuning for Nextcloud • Secure remote infrastructure work • Backup and restore planning • LDAP / Active Directory integration with Nextcloud • Working with customer security/network teams, including WAF or reverse proxy setups Important Notes • This is a remote project. • No onsite work is required. • We will provide the required remote access to our infrastructure. • The freelancer will work together with our internal team and WAF administrator. • We are looking for someone who can both implement and explain the recommended setup clearly.
