Summary

I am seeking an inspiring, scientifically rigorous mentor to guide my motivated 13-year-old rising 8th grader through writing his first academic research paper on a Genetics related topic. Because we have never done a meta-review before, your core task will be teaching him the foundations of the scientific research, writing and publishing process, with guidance on the Genetics domain. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology, genetics, or bio-engineering, along with a passion for breaking down complex concepts for a bright young mind. Key Responsibilities & Learning Milestones The mentor will guide the student through a true academic pipeline, teaching him how to brainstorm subtopics and narrow down a creative, high-level biological prompt. then, you will help him navigate academic databases (Google Scholar, PubMed, NCBI) to find peer-reviewed papers and identify relevant, public scientific data sets. Finally, teach him how to read dense scientific literature, extract data tables, and interpret findings in a scientifically sound manner. Introduce proper citation mechanics (MLA/APA), understand how to quote sources, and master the ethical importance of giving credit. Finally, guide him from a formal literature matrix and structured outline to a fully realized, publication-quality meta-review paper. This will be a 3-to-4-month engagement requiring approximately two hours of your time each week. Ideal Candidate Qualifications Strong background in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Bio-engineering, or a related Life Sciences field (graduate student, PhD or researcher preferred). Experience with academic publishing, literature reviews, and/or formal data analysis. Patience and a passion for teaching younger students. You can break down complex biochemical jargon into digestible, exciting concepts for a bright 13-year-old. Excellent organizational skills to keep a multi-month project on track.
