UX Researcher for Moderated Video-Call Playtest Sessions (Mobile Game, Weekly)
Worldwide
Overview We're building a mobile game and we run a weekly program of live, 1-on-1 moderated playtest sessions to compare gameplay features before they ship. We need a UX researcher who can own the moderator seat: get on a 1-hour video call with a tester, follow a live script, watch them play two versions of the same game back-to-back, and capture what they *do* — not just what they say. This is not a focus group and not QA. You're not pitching the game, you're not fixing bugs, and you're not allowed to explain mechanics or nudge the player toward a "correct" way to play. What a session looks like: - 1-hour video call (Google Meet) with a single tester, using a pre-built live-moderation script (Typeform) that walks you through setup, two paired game builds, and structured questions. - You stay mostly silent while they play. If they go quiet, you wait — 5 seconds of silence is data, not dead air. You never explain a mechanic, never suggest a fix, never confirm whether they're "doing it right." - You log behavioral observations in real time (retries, confusion points, quit moments) plus one structured preference question at the end, directly in the form — no separate write-up needed. What we provide - The moderation script and intake form (fully built, no need to design instruments) - Recruited, scheduled testers matching our panel criteria — you don't source participants - A short onboarding pass on our "shut up and observe" protocol before your first live session What you own: - Running the live sessions to protocol, every week - Occasional written notes when a session is unusable (moderator broke protocol, tech failure, etc.) Requirements - Proven experience moderating **usability tests or qualitative UX research interviews**, ideally 1:1 and video-call based - Fluent, native-level **Spanish** — sessions and testers are Mexico-based - Comfortable following a fixed script exactly, including staying silent and not helping — some researchers find this harder than it sounds; - Reliable, quiet setup for back-to-back 1-hour calls, own internet/webcam - Available for a recurring weekly slot(s); we're scaling from ~5 to 5–10 sessions/week Nice to have - Background in games UX research or playtesting specifically (mobile especially) - Comfortable working from a structured form/script rather than an open-ended interview guide Logistics - Format: remote, video call, Mexico City–adjacent scheduling - Cadence: recurring, weekly ongoing (not a one-off engagement)
