**SPED Teacher / Maths Tutor for 11-Year-Old with ADHD (Fluent English, Long-Term, Ongoing)** We're a Sydney (Australia) family looking for a patient, skilled online maths tutor for our 11-year-old son. This is a long-term, ongoing role for the right person. **The ideal profile (this is what we're looking for):** - **Licensed SPED (Special Education) teacher** — this is our priority - **Strong at teaching primary / early-secondary maths**, especially to children who struggle - **Experience with ADHD children** — keeping an easily-distracted child engaged and on track - **Clear, fluent spoken English** — essential, as our son has a speech delay and English is his second language (Spanish is spoken at home) If you don't tick every box but you're a strong SPED teacher or a primary teacher with real experience helping struggling maths learners, we'd still like to hear from you. **About our son:** He is in Year 6 (NSW/Australian curriculum), friendly, hard-working and keen to do well. He has ADHD and a language impairment. Importantly, he is actually **quick and confident with maths facts** (addition, multiplication) — his difficulty is not number facts. Where he struggles is **word problems, place value, time, money, and fractions** — because these need reading comprehension and holding several steps in mind at once, which is hard for him. He is a strong **visual, hands-on learner** — he understands best when problems are drawn out, colour-coded, and worked step by step. He responds beautifully to patience, warmth and praise. We'll provide a short briefing on how he learns best, plus specific strategies from his learning assessment. **What the sessions cover (two parts):** 1. First, support and complete his weekly Year 6 maths homework. 2. Then continue on Khan Academy, which we've set up to track his mastery. His maths has gaps going back to Year 3–4, so Khan Academy is how we fill those gaps and level him up at his own pace while homework keeps him current. **How he needs to be taught (very important):** - One or two steps at a time, given both spoken and in writing — he has very limited working memory, so never explain several steps at once - Teach him to **read word problems carefully**: highlight/underline the key numbers and words, and have him say the strategy out loud before solving - Record every step of the working on the shared whiteboard — don't let him do it all in his head - Short blocks with a movement break — each 40-minute session runs as two ~15-minute blocks with a short break, not one long stretch - Lots of visuals — draw the problem, colour-code, use diagrams - Check understanding by having him explain it back in his own words - He needs time to complete tasks — patience while he works through them is essential, not an inconvenience - Fewer questions done well beats many done poorly - Praise effort, correct gently — he loses confidence quickly **Schedule (40-minute sessions):** - Every weekday: **5:30–6:10pm Sydney time** (= 3:30pm Manila time) - Saturday: **2:30–3:10pm Sydney time** (= 12:30pm Manila time) - Please confirm you can commit to these times consistently. **Technology required:** - A **drawing / pen tablet** (XP-Pen, Huion, or Wacom) so you can write out equations and worked solutions live — our son writes on his own XP-Pen tablet during sessions - Comfortable using a **shared online whiteboard** (Zoom Whiteboard, Microsoft Whiteboard, or similar) alongside video - Reliable computer, webcam, and stable internet **Also expected:** - A brief weekly written report on what was covered, how he's progressing, and any gaps you're seeing **Please answer these in your application (we read the answers carefully):** 1.
