Script Editor and Refinement Writer for YouTube Narration Scripts
Worldwide
We are looking for a skilled script editor and refinement writer to help us prepare final narration scripts for our YouTube videos. This role is not simply proofreading. You will be working from draft scripts written by our in-house writer, together with the edited video itself. In some cases, you may also need to review the original source footage to confirm important details. Your job will be to turn the draft into a final, narration-ready script that is: Factual Naturally written Polished in British English Well matched to the visuals Clear and smooth when read aloud Refined with engaging storytelling Ready to be processed for voiceover What the job involves: 1. Fact-checking and topic research You will need to research the featured project/build, the build process, tools, materials, location, and any technical claims to make sure that what is included in the draft is accurate. This will include watching our edited video and, where necessary, reviewing the original source footage to confirm important details. If something in the draft seems unclear, incorrect, incomplete, or unsupported by the footage, you should either correct it or flag it. If the initial writer has missed important information, you will also be expected to do the extra writing needed to correct this and make the script complete. 2. Reviewing and refining the draft script You will check the script for grammar, clarity, flow, sentence structure, repetition, and overall language quality. The final script should be written in natural British English. We are looking for someone who understands everyday British grammar, phrasing, and natural speech, basically how people in Britain normally speak. 3. Syncing the narration to the visuals. The narration must match what is happening on screen. If the video shows roof work, interior framing, painting, plumbing, insulation, or a final reveal, the script should reflect that accurately and at the right moment. The narration should not feel disconnected from the visuals. 4. Improving the storytelling and explanations Where needed, you will refine the writing so that each step has context and purpose. The script should not only describe what is happening, but also help the viewer understand why it matters. For example, instead of only saying that a window was installed, the narration should explain the purpose behind it, such as bringing in natural light, improving ventilation, or making the space more comfortable. If a specific material, tool, or technique was chosen, the script should briefly explain why that choice was important for the build. You will also need to identify moments where the visuals show something happening, but the viewer may not immediately understand what is going on. If the initial writer has not explained those moments clearly, you should write the missing narration needed to fill those gaps. At the same time, the writing should remain concise. The goal is not to over-explain every detail, but to add the right amount of context so the script feels informative, engaging, and easy to follow while still matching the pace of the visuals. Deliverables: The writing needs to sound natural, clean, and easy to process as narration. Each completed script must be delivered in two formats: a)Narration document - This is the clean final script that will be used to process the voiceover. It should contain only the final narration text, written clearly and naturally for voiceover recording. b)Timestamps document - This will be used by our video editor to sync the voiceover to the visuals. It should break the narration into sections with approximate timestamps, matching the relevant parts of the video. (We will provide examples for illustration.) Example files provided: We have provided an example of a previous project so you can clearly understand the expected final output. The example will include -The original draft script -The final narration document -The final timestamps document This should help you see the difference between the initial draft and the polished, production-ready version we expect. Time required for this task: This is a time-consuming task because the final output needs to be more than just grammatically correct. When done properly, this involves watching the edit carefully, checking the draft against the visuals, researching or verifying unclear details, improving the narration, filling in any important gaps, and preparing both the clean narration document and the timestamped version for the editor. For this reason, a realistic working pace would likely be around 15 to 20 minutes of edited video per day, depending on the complexity of the project and the amount of research and rewriting required. Ideal candidate: The ideal person for this role should have: Strong English writing skills Excellent attention to detail The ability to research and verify information A good sense of how narration should work alongside video footage Familiarity with everyday British grammar, phrasing, and natural speech To apply Please share: Relevant examples of scripts, narration writing, or editing work you have done before. Your availability and realistic turnaround time for this type of work. We are looking for someone reliable, detail-oriented, and consistently able to produce polished scripts that are ready to go directly into production.
