Seeking Senior Unreal Engine 5 Technical Consultant

I’m looking for a senior Unreal Engine developer (C++ focused) to help architect and build the foundation of an ambitious Unreal Engine 5 VR action RPG. This is an early-stage project. The initial goal is not full production, but to develop a technical foundation and prototype strategy and evaluate feasibility with an experienced technical lead. If the collaboration goes well, this role can expand into a long-term technical leadership position, including helping assemble and guide a small core engineering team. Initial Scope (Phase 1 – Paid Consultation / Prototype Planning) The first engagement will focus on technical planning and architecture, including: Evaluating overall technical feasibility of the project Designing Unreal Engine 5 architecture for a VR-first game Identifying key VR technical challenges (interaction, locomotion, physics, performance) Defining scope for a playable prototype / vertical slice Recommending team structure (engineering + VR + technical art) Identifying major technical risks and mitigation strategies Advising on tools, plugins, and pipeline setup This phase is intended as a paid technical consultation and planning engagement, not full production. Required Skills Expert-level Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5) Strong C++ programming experience Experience building gameplay systems from scratch VR development experience (OpenXR / SteamVR / Quest preferred) Strong understanding of game architecture and system design Experience with performance optimization in real-time 3D applications Ability to think at both systems and implementation level Nice to Have Experience shipping VR titles Multiplayer or networking experience Experience with AI systems or complex NPC behavior Previous AAA or co-development studio experience Experience leading small engineering teams Work Style Early-stage collaboration and frequent communication Focus on technical problem solving and architectural planning first Preference for someone who can challenge ideas and propose better solutions Open to long-term engagement if fit is strong Budget Budget is flexible and will depend on experience level.
