Senior AWS Architect / Engineer – Lift-and-Shift Migration of Ubuntu Servers (Short Project)
Worldwide
Job Description We are looking for an experienced AWS engineer to assist with a lift-and-shift migration of Ubuntu Linux servers from an on-premise data center to AWS EC2. This is a short-term infrastructure migration project focused on replicating existing virtual machines into AWS with minimal changes to the application environment. Current environment There are four Ubuntu Linux servers that need to be migrated. Each server has approximately 4 TB of storage, for a total of about 16 TB of data. PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch are running locally on these servers. Each server operates independently and there are no interdependencies between them. The servers are located in a data center and are accessed through a VPN. These systems are currently running production workloads and will remain in production until the final migration cutover. The migration approach is lift-and-shift (rehost) to AWS EC2. The goal is to move the existing servers to AWS with minimal changes to the current software environment. Project objective The objective is to replicate the existing servers into AWS EC2, validate the workloads after migration, and perform a controlled cutover once testing is complete. Responsibilities The consultant will review the existing server environment and confirm the migration strategy and tooling. They will configure the AWS infrastructure required for the migration, including VPC networking, IAM permissions, EC2 instances, EBS storage, and security groups. They will implement the migration using AWS Application Migration Service (MGN) or similar tooling and install replication agents on the source servers. They will monitor replication, launch replicated EC2 instances in AWS, and validate the workloads after migration, including PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch. They will verify network connectivity and endpoints, assist with testing, support the final cutover process, and provide documentation and knowledge transfer to our internal team. Required experience Strong AWS infrastructure experience including EC2, EBS, VPC networking, and IAM configuration. Hands-on experience performing lift-and-shift migrations from on-premise environments to AWS. Experience using AWS Application Migration Service (MGN) or similar migration tooling. Linux administration experience with Ubuntu. Experience working with PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch environments. Preferred qualifications AWS Solutions Architect certification. Experience migrating production workloads. Experience working with environments larger than 10 TB.
