Senior Editorial Designer for Brand System

Job Description About Us Aerion Engineering Advisory is a boutique Australian engineering advisory specialising in Lifecycle Engineering, Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM), Supportability Engineering and Engineering Governance. We are building a premium engineering advisory brand targeted at: Defence Aerospace Maritime Rail Mining Energy Critical Infrastructure Our positioning is intentionally different from a traditional engineering consultancy. We help organisations: Build and mature lifecycle engineering capability across acquisition and sustainment. Our brand should feel more like McKinsey, Frazer-Nash or PA Consulting than a typical engineering company. Project Overview We are seeking an experienced Editorial Designer to develop the publication design system for our company. This is not simply a notebook design. The successful designer will create the visual identity for all future Aerion publications. The first publication will be our flagship: Engineering Decision Journal – 2026 Edition An A5 premium notebook/journal combining: Engineering insights Executive editorial pages Professional note pages Subtle branding The notebook will be distributed to engineering leaders at major Defence and engineering conferences. Our objective is for recipients to keep and use it for months—not discard it after the event. Scope of Work Phase 1 – Brand Publication System Develop a consistent publication design language including: Typography hierarchy Colour palette Page grid system Heading styles Section styles Callout styles Footer styles Icon recommendations White-space principles Cover design language This design system will become the foundation for all future Aerion documents. Phase 2 – Engineering Decision Journal Design an A5 publication approximately 48–64 pages including: Cover Premium minimalist cover. No stock imagery. Typography-driven. Introduction Pages Approximately four pages introducing: Aerion Engineering philosophy Lifecycle engineering Engineering Insight Pages Full-page editorial layouts inserted throughout the journal. These contain short engineering principles. Examples include: Engineering documents are not the objective. Better lifecycle engineering decisions are. Reliability is designed. Maintenance preserves reliability. Supportability begins during concept. Engineering Notes The majority of the publication consists of high-quality ruled or dot-grid note pages. The pages should be elegant, uncluttered and enjoyable to write on.
