Senior Video Games Journalist & Interviewer - Proven Bylines Required
Worldwide
We are building a small roster of senior video games journalists for ongoing paid assignments. The work will include: • Interviews with game developers, studio leaders, publishers, creators, esports professionals, pro players, coaches, and other recognized figures in the industry • Reported features, profiles, Q&As, analysis, and articles based on editorial briefs • Identifying and approaching relevant interview subjects when required • Researching topics, preparing interview questions, verifying facts and quotes, and delivering publication-ready copy This is a senior journalism assignment, not a general content-writing role. Personal enthusiasm for games, experience writing generic gaming blogs, or “I have never done this professionally but I am confident I can” applications are not sufficient. Non-negotiable requirements • An established and independently verifiable record of professional games journalism • Bylined work for recognized gaming, technology, entertainment, esports, or business publications • Live author/contributor pages or a consistent body of published work under your real name • Demonstrable experience conducting original interviews or producing reported features • Publication-level written English • Ability to follow an editorial brief while improving the angle where appropriate • Strong research, fact-checking, source attribution, and deadline discipline • Willingness to publish commissioned work under your real byline and an accurate professional biography • Clear understanding of journalistic ethics, disclosure, conflicts of interest, and quote approval rules Strong advantages • Existing professional relationships with developers, studio executives, publishers, PR teams, agents, esports organizations, players, coaches, or recognized gaming personalities • A track record of securing interviews independently • Experience covering events such as GDC, Gamescom, PAX, Summer Game Fest, major esports tournaments, or similar industry events • An established professional profile such as Muck Rack, a personal journalism website, recognized outlet profiles, conference appearances, podcast appearances, or industry awards • Deep expertise in a particular beat, franchise, platform, genre, regional market, or esports title Editorial standards All work must be original, accurate, properly sourced, and written by the person receiving the byline. We do not accept AI-generated articles, fabricated quotes or access claims, rewritten third-party content, plagiarism, undisclosed ghostwriting, or samples that cannot be independently verified. Assistive research or transcription tools may be discussed, but the writer remains fully responsible for the reporting and final copy. How to apply Begin your proposal with: BEST INTERVIEW: [name of interview subject] — [live URL] Then provide: 1. Your real name and current professional role 2. Five live links to your strongest bylined gaming or esports articles published by recognized editorial outlets 3. At least two examples of interviews or reported features for which you personally conducted the reporting 4. Links to your main author pages, Muck Rack profile, professional website, LinkedIn profile, or other pages that independently verify your publishing history 5. The outlets you currently write for or have written for recently 6. The gaming subjects, companies, communities, or esports scenes you know particularly well 7. The types of industry sources you can realistically access, supported by published examples; please do not disclose private contact information 8. Your typical fee and turnaround time for: • A 1,000–1,500 word brief-led article • A reported interview or profile requiring research, outreach, and writing 9. Your current availability for ongoing assignments Applications without live, named bylines will not be reviewed. Self-published work, generic content-writing portfolios, and gaming enthusiasm are not substitutes for professional reporting experience. Selection process We will independently verify bylines and professional history. Shortlisted candidates will receive the full project and publication context before making any commitment. The first assignment will be a paid commission; we do not request unpaid test articles. Scope, fee, deadline, publishing rights, byline usage, biography, editing process, and disclosure requirements will be agreed before work begins. We will never attribute work to a writer that they did not personally produce.
