Job type: Fixed-price or hourly (open to either) Experience level: Expert Estimated duration: 4–8 weeks (Phase 1), with potential for ongoing work About the project We're a luxury home goods retailer with five Bay Area stores and a growing Shopify online store. We recently completed a full CRO and strategy audit, and the single largest opportunity it surfaced is our mobile experience. The numbers make the case on their own: Mobile is 76–90% of our traffic but converts at 0.20% vs. desktop's 1.41% — a 7x gap. The leak is at the top of the funnel: mobile add-to-cart rate is 0.66% vs. desktop's 5.63% (an 8.5x gap). Revenue per session is $0.28 on mobile vs. $2.45 on desktop — a 9x productivity gap. Importantly, mobile checkout already works (mobile completes checkout slightly better than desktop). The problem is entirely upstream — discovery, browsing, product pages, and adding to cart. We're not looking to reinvent the site. We're looking for an expert to close the gap between our mobile experience and the luxury-commerce standard our retail brand already meets. What we need you to do This is a defined scope of mobile-focused fixes. We have the audit findings; we need someone who can execute them cleanly on Shopify. 1. Mobile performance (highest priority) Our mobile site is slow and heavy, and it's costing us conversions. Current state: Largest Contentful Paint of ~10 seconds (target threshold is 2.5s), page weight of 3.4 MB (2x best practice), SpeedVitals Grade D / 44%. Goal: bring mobile LCP from ~10s down to 3–4s. Expected work: reduce JavaScript blocking time, preload the hero image, convert images to modern formats (WebP/AVIF), and reduce overall page weight. 2. Mobile product detail page (PDP) conversion elements Our PDPs are missing standard conversion elements that competitors (Williams Sonoma, Perigold, Gracious Style) treat as table stakes: Sticky Add-to-Cart that stays visible while scrolling (currently the button disappears once users scroll past it). Customer reviews and ratings (platform install — e.g., Judge.me or Yotpo). Estimated delivery dates and delivery urgency messaging. Structured shipping, return, and care information. Trust indicators (free shipping, ships-from, in-store availability). 3. Mobile UX fixes Our audit identified twelve mobile-specific issues. The most material: Low text contrast in hero blocks where overlay text sits on busy, light-toned background images (currently fails accessibility standards). No "Continue Shopping" CTA in the cart drawer — users have to manually close it. No back-to-top button on long pages. No active-tab highlight in the mobile hamburger menu. Oversized mega menus on small screens — across all top-nav categories, the menu covers most of the viewport and forces in-menu scrolling. Needs to be resized to fit a single viewport with surrounding content still visible. 4. Cart drawer redesign (mobile + desktop) Add a "Continue Shopping" CTA that returns the user to their last-browsed collection. Add a two-product "You'll Also Love These" recommendation block with single-click add-to-cart. Required skills & experience Deep Shopify expertise — theme development, Liquid, and a proven track record optimizing conversion on Shopify storefronts. Mobile-first CRO — demonstrable experience improving mobile conversion rates, not just visual polish. Core Web Vitals / performance optimization — concrete examples of reducing LCP and page weight on real stores (please cite before/after numbers). PDP and cart UX — experience implementing sticky CTAs, review platforms, trust blocks, and cart-drawer recommendations. Accessibility awareness — comfortable resolving contrast and usability issues. Bonus: experience with luxury / premium e-commerce brands, where polish and brand integrity matter as much as the conversion lift. To apply, please include 2–3 Shopify stores where you improved mobile conversion or page speed — with before/after metrics if you have them. A short note on how you'd sequence this work (what you'd tackle first and why). Your experience with review platforms (Judge.me, Yotpo, or similar) and sticky-CTA / cart-drawer implementations. Your availability and estimated timeline for the scope above. We have a detailed audit document we can share with the selected candidate. Looking forward to your proposal.
