# Social Media Researcher and Map Creator — One-Hour Paid Test We are looking for someone with strong online research and social media skills to complete a one-hour paid test for Mapzaar, a platform for creating and sharing curated maps of places. The purpose of this test is to evaluate: * The quality of your research * Your judgment when selecting social media opportunities * Your ability to create useful and accurate maps * Your ability to write natural social media posts and replies * How many complete, high-quality workflows you can reasonably finish in one hour Quality and Quantity is both important. We want to see how many high quality maps you are able to complete each hour. ## Approved Cities All work must focus on one of the following cities: * New York City * Houston * London * Sydney * Los Angeles Neighborhood-specific topics within these cities are also acceptable. Examples include: * Best halal restaurants in Queens * Coffee shops for working in Downtown Houston * Hidden gems in East London * Best beaches near Sydney * Date-night restaurants in Koreatown, Los Angeles Do not create maps for cities or regions outside this list during the test. ## What You Will Do During the one-hour test, complete as many of the following workflows as you reasonably can. You may complete either type of workflow, but you should attempt at least one existing-request workflow before creating an independent post. ## Workflow 1: Answer an Existing Social Media Request Find a recent social media post (preferably posted within the last 7 days, and no older than 30 days) on Reddit, Threads, or Facebook where someone is requesting place recommendations in one of the approved cities. The question must be something that can be usefully answered with a curated Mapzaar map. Examples include: * Best restaurants in New York City * Best halal food in Houston * Coffee shops for studying in London * Places to visit during a weekend in Sydney * Hidden gems in Los Angeles * Date-night ideas in Queens * Family-friendly activities in Houston * Best examples of a specific food in a city * Things to do near a particular neighborhood * A short travel itinerary For each opportunity: 1. Find a relevant and reasonably recent social media post. 2. Confirm that the request concerns an approved city. 3. Check the community or platform rules before responding. 4. Confirm that sharing a useful Mapzaar link would be appropriate. 5. Add the original social media post URL to the provided CSV. 6. Research and curate a useful list of places that directly answers the request. 7. Create and publish the map on Mapzaar. 8. Write a natural and helpful response to the original question. 9. Include the Mapzaar map link in the response. 10. Publish the response. 11. Add the Mapzaar URL and published response URL to the CSV. Reddit is recommended for finding existing recommendation requests. Threads and Facebook may also be used when a suitable opportunity is available. ## Workflow 2: Create an Independent Social Media Post Choose a useful recommendation topic concerning one of the approved cities. The topic should generally follow a format such as: * Best X in Y * Best places for X in Y * Hidden gems in Y * Things to do in Y * Places to visit in Y * A guide to X in Y Examples include: * Best Coffee Shops in New York City * Best Pakistani Restaurants in Houston * Best Independent Bookstores in London * Best Coastal Walks in Sydney * Best Dessert Shops in Los Angeles * Hidden Gems in Queens * Best Family Activities in Houston * Best Date-Night Restaurants in East London For each independent post: 1. Choose a clear and useful topic. 2. Confirm that it concerns one of the approved cities. 3. Research and curate a useful list of places. 4. Create and publish the map on Mapzaar. 5. Write and publish an original social media post sharing the recommendations and map. 6. Add the social media post URL and Mapzaar map URL to the CSV. Threads is recommended for independent posts, but another appropriate platform may be used. ## Map Quality Requirements Each map should: * Directly answer the original request or selected topic * Normally contain approximately 8–15 places * Include real, currently operating locations * Include only places in the correct city or neighborhood * Avoid duplicate locations * Use the correct business or place names * Have a clear and specific title * Have a useful description * Be valuable enough that someone might genuinely save or share it A smaller map may be acceptable when the topic is narrow and there are not many legitimate options. Do not add weak or irrelevant locations simply to reach a certain number. ## Research Requirements You may use: * Search engines * Official business websites * Official tourism websites * Social media discussions * Review platforms * Local publications * Other reputable sources ## Social Media Writing Requirements Comments and posts should sound natural, conversational, and specific to the discussion. Do not write comments that sound like advertisements or generic promotional messages. A good response should provide context and explain why the map may be useful. Example: “I pulled these recommendations into a map so they’re easier to compare and save. I included several of the places mentioned here along with a few other highly recommended options nearby.” Avoid responses such as: “Check out Mapzaar, the best platform for discovering amazing places!” Do not: * Copy and paste the same wording repeatedly * Use excessive promotional language * Pretend to have personally visited places you have not visited * Claim that a place is your favorite unless you have actually visited it * Spam unrelated discussions * Post where links or promotional content are prohibited * Argue with moderators or community members You may say that you created the map using Mapzaar. The goal is for every comment and post to be genuinely helpful, not merely a reason to share a link. ## When to Skip an Opportunity Skip a social media post when: * It does not concern one of the five approved cities * The community rules prohibit links or promotional content * The question is unrelated to place recommendations * The post is older than 30 days. * The post is clearly inactive or no longer relevant * The request is too vague to answer usefully * The person is asking for sensitive or unsafe recommendations * An existing response already provides essentially the same resource * The locations cannot be researched accurately within the available time Good judgment is part of the test. Finding an opportunity does not mean you must respond to it. ## CSV Tracking Record each attempted or completed workflow in the provided CSV. Include the following information: * Date * Platform * Workflow type * City * Original request URL, when applicable * Mapzaar map URL * Published social media comment or post URL * Time started * Time completed * Status * Notes Possible statuses include: * Completed * Map created but not posted * Opportunity skipped * Incomplete due to time limit If you begin a workflow but cannot finish it before the hour ends, record what was completed rather than working beyond the agreed test time. ## One-Hour Test Instructions The test is limited to one hour of paid work. Please: * Start the timer when you begin researching * Stop after one hour * Do not continue working unpaid * Record the time spent on each workflow * Complete as many high-quality workflows as reasonably possible The first few minutes may be used to familiarize yourself with Mapzaar and the CSV. ## How We Will Evaluate the Test We will review: * Relevance of the social media opportunities selected * Accuracy of the locations * Quality and usefulness of the maps * Naturalness of the social media writing * Whether community rules were followed * Organization and completeness of the CSV * Attention to detail * Number of complete workflows finished within the hour * Whether the work appears authentic rather than spammy ## Requirements * Strong written English * Good online research skills * Familiarity with Reddit, Threads, or Facebook * Ability to write conversational social media content * Strong attention to detail * Ability to follow community rules * Reliable time tracking * Comfortable learning a simple map-creation platform * Familiarity with at least one of the approved cities is preferred ## Application Questions Please answer the following: 1. Which platforms do you regularly use: Reddit, Threads, or Facebook? 2. Have you previously done online research, community engagement, or social media work? 3. How would you determine whether it is appropriate to share a Mapzaar link in a discussion? 4. What is your hourly rate? 5. Are you available to complete a one-hour paid test?
