# Senior Embedded Systems & Hardware Integration Engineer **Company:** Vivo Control **Employment Type:** Full-time, dedicated position **Language Requirement:** Fluent English and Spanish **Availability:** Flexible schedule and emergency on-call availability ## Position Summary Vivo Control is seeking a highly versatile, hands-on **Senior Embedded Systems & Hardware Integration Engineer** to take ownership of the testing, assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and technical coordination of our IoT access-control and intercom hardware. This is not a traditional desk-only engineering position, a basic electronics technician role, or a project-management position. We need someone who is equally comfortable working at an electronics bench, assembling prototypes, testing firmware, troubleshooting field equipment, interviewing developers, and coordinating directly with software, firmware, electrical, and manufacturing teams. The selected candidate will become Vivo Control’s primary technical owner for the connection between our physical devices, embedded firmware, cellular and network communications, and cloud software platform. This individual must be completely dedicated to Vivo Control and willing to respond outside normal business hours when urgent technical situations, deployments, testing, or production issues require attention. ## Primary Responsibilities * Assemble, configure, test, and troubleshoot Vivo Control relay controllers, intercoms, access-control devices, and IoT prototypes. * Build and configure Particle Boron-based relay devices and future custom cellular and Ethernet controllers. * Flash, update, configure, and validate embedded firmware. * Perform systematic bench testing of PCBs, relays, inputs, outputs, sensors, power systems, communications, and peripheral devices. * Diagnose problems involving hardware, firmware, wiring, LTE, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, BLE, PoE, APIs, cloud connectivity, and software integration. * Reproduce reported failures and determine whether the root cause is hardware, firmware, networking, backend software, mobile software, installation, or configuration. * Read and interpret electronic schematics, PCB documentation, wiring diagrams, pinouts, datasheets, and technical specifications. * Use multimeters, oscilloscopes, bench power supplies, logic analyzers, soldering equipment, and other electronics-testing tools. * Test and integrate technologies such as relays, tamper inputs, battery backup, PoE, Ethernet, LTE/4G/5G, BLE, Wiegand, OSDP, SIP, WebRTC, and access-control peripherals. * Develop repeatable test procedures, acceptance criteria, test fixtures, validation checklists, and quality-control documentation. * Maintain organized records of hardware revisions, firmware versions, test results, defects, corrective actions, and unresolved technical risks. * Coordinate directly with embedded developers, backend developers, mobile developers, electrical engineers, PCB designers, and outside manufacturers. * Translate business and operational requirements into clear technical requirements for engineers and developers. * Review technical work, challenge assumptions, identify missing requirements, and verify that completed work functions in real-world conditions. * Participate in interviewing, evaluating, and selecting firmware, hardware, electronics, and software developers. * Communicate with overseas manufacturers and component suppliers regarding specifications, prototypes, defects, production changes, and quality-control issues. * Prepare devices for demonstrations, field trials, customer installations, certifications, and production. * Support technicians and installers during difficult deployments and escalated field problems. * Evaluate new components, communication modules, intercoms, cameras, readers, sensors, and access-control technologies. * Take direct ownership of technical problems from initial discovery through documented resolution. ## Required Qualifications * At least five years of relevant experience in embedded systems, electronics, IoT devices, access control, telecommunications, security systems, industrial controls, or hardware-to-cloud integration. * Professional fluency in both English and Spanish, verbally and in writing. * Strong practical understanding of electronics, embedded firmware, networking, and connected devices. * Demonstrated ability to assemble, wire, configure, test, modify, and troubleshoot electronic equipment. * Experience testing embedded firmware and diagnosing hardware-to-software integration problems. * Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, PCB layouts, technical datasheets, and engineering documentation. * Experience using professional electronics-testing and diagnostic equipment. * Working knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, PoE, Wi-Fi, cellular communications, APIs, and remote-device connectivity. * Ability to communicate effectively with engineers and software developers while remaining highly hands-on. * Strong documentation, organization, analytical thinking, and root-cause-analysis skills. * Ability to work independently, prioritize urgent issues, and make responsible technical decisions with limited supervision. * Willingness to work before or after normal business hours and on weekends when testing, deployments, demonstrations, production deadlines, or emergencies require it. * Ability to remain reachable and participate in an emergency on-call arrangement for critical system or hardware incidents. * Willingness to travel when required for installations, manufacturer visits, field testing, certification, or technical support. ## Preferred Experience Experience in several of the following areas is strongly preferred: * Particle Boron or other cellular IoT platforms * C, C++, Python, embedded Linux, or microcontroller firmware * PCB prototyping, board bring-up, soldering, and component-level troubleshooting * Access-control systems, gate controllers, intercoms, alarm systems, or security electronics * Relay logic, digital and analog inputs, sensors, tamper detection, and battery-backed power * BLE, NFC, RFID, Wiegand, OSDP, RS-485, UART, SPI, or I²C * LTE, cellular modules, SIM provisioning, Ethernet, PoE, and remote-device management * SIP, WebRTC, audio/video intercoms, cameras, and real-time communications * REST APIs, MQTT, webhooks, cloud platforms, and IoT telemetry * Hardware manufacturing, factory quality control, engineering change orders, and overseas supplier management * FCC, UL, CE, or other electronic-device testing and certification processes * GitHub, issue-tracking platforms, QA systems, and structured engineering documentation ## Personal Characteristics The right candidate must be: * Exceptionally versatile and willing to work across multiple technical disciplines * Naturally curious and capable of learning unfamiliar technologies quickly * Hands-on and comfortable building, testing, repairing, and modifying equipment * Thorough, methodical, and unwilling to declare something complete without testing it * Calm and analytical during urgent technical incidents * Accountable and capable of owning problems through final resolution * Comfortable challenging engineers when results do not meet specifications * Able to explain complicated technical issues clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders * Flexible regarding responsibilities, schedules, and changing development priorities * Highly dependable, responsive, and committed to the long-term success of Vivo Control ## Schedule and On-Call Expectations This is a full-time, dedicated position. Normal working hours will be established, but the role requires substantial flexibility. The employee must be willing to assist before or after normal working hours, on weekends, and during urgent deployments or technical incidents. Critical issues may require rapid response outside the standard schedule. On-call availability does not mean continuously working 24 hours per day. It means remaining reasonably reachable and prepared to respond to critical Vivo Control hardware, firmware, connectivity, manufacturing, or deployment problems under an established emergency-response policy. ## Education A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, embedded systems, or a related discipline is preferred. However, extensive, verifiable, hands-on experience may be accepted in place of a formal degree. ## Application Requirements Candidates should provide: * Current résumé * Summary of relevant embedded systems and electronics experience * Examples of devices, prototypes, PCBs, or IoT products they have assembled or tested * Description of their experience working with firmware and software developers * English and Spanish proficiency * Professional references * Compensation expectations * Earliest available starting date * Confirmation of schedule flexibility and emergency on-call availability This is a senior, hands-on position. Candidates whose experience is limited exclusively to project management, software development, equipment installation, or help-desk support will not be considered unless they can demonstrate substantial electronics, embedded systems, bench-testing, and hardware-integration capabilities.
