Summary

Squarespace 7.1 Developer Needed for Wales Children’s Care Campaign Website We are looking for an experienced Squarespace 7.1 designer/developer to design and build a public-facing campaign website for a national membership organisation working in children’s social care in Wales. The website will support a major national and local campaign launching in September 2026. Project objective The website will explain the potential impact of proposed changes to children’s residential care in Wales. The campaign will focus on: * The impact on children, stability and continuity of care. * The potential impact on the availability of children’s homes. * Local and national sufficiency pressures. * The financial impact on local authorities and the Welsh Government. * Real stories from children’s home providers and staff. * A practical alternative approach being proposed to government. The website will be the main landing destination for both national and highly localised social media campaigns. We want a site that feels credible, human, modern and campaign-focused, NOT corporate or overly technical. Platform: The website must be built in Squarespace 7.1. A key requirement is that our internal team can easily update the site after launch. We need to be able to edit: * Text. * Statistics. * Videos. * Images. * Local authority pages. * Downloads. * Links and calls to action. We want to use standard Squarespace functionality wherever possible and minimise custom code. Core site structure The initial website will be deliberately focused. We expect the following: 1. Homepage 2. Why This Matters / campaign case page 3. Local authority directory 4. One reusable local authority landing-page template 5. 22 local authority landing pages using the same template 6. Stories / videos page 7. Evidence / sources page 8. About / contact page 9. Basic privacy, cookies and accessibility pages This is a campaign microsite, not a large organisational website. Local authority pages This is one of the most important parts of the project. There are 22 local authorities in Wales, and each will have its own landing page for use in local social media campaigns. All local pages should use one master design/template, rather than being individually designed. Each local page will typically contain: * Local authority name. * Local campaign headline. * Three or four local facts or statistics. * Short explanation of the local sufficiency impact. * Headline local financial figure. * Provider video, image or quotation where available. * Short explanation of our proposed solution. * Source links. * Call to action. Example URL structure: `domain.wales/swansea` `domain.wales/cardiff` `domain.wales/wrexham` We will provide the local content and data in a structured spreadsheet. The developer should create the master page once and then efficiently duplicate and populate it across the 22 areas. Homepage The homepage should include: * Strong campaign hero section. * Campaign headline and short explanation. * Video or campaign image. * Three or four headline national statistics. * Brief explanation of why the issue matters for children. * Clear route to the local authority pages. * Summary of the alternative approach we are proposing. * Provider or member story. * Strong calls to action. The homepage must work particularly well on mobile, as much of the traffic will come from social media. Why This Matters page This page should bring together the main campaign arguments in one place. It will cover: * What is changing. * Why we are concerned. * The impact on children. * The impact on residential care capacity. * The financial impact. * The alternative approach we are asking government to consider. We do not need multiple detailed policy pages. Stories / videos page We are currently filming campaign videos with children’s home providers and staff. The site should make effective use of: * Short videos. * Provider quotations. * Photography. * Strong campaign statistics. * Simple infographic-style content blocks. We will provide edited videos, images and copy. At launch, we expect approximately 4–8 featured videos/stories. There is no requirement to create a separate page for every video. Evidence / sources page The campaign needs to be evidence-led and credible. This page should include: * Key national statistics. * Short explanation of how the figures were calculated. * Main assumptions. * Local authority methodology. * Source links. * Any downloadable evidence or methodology documents we provide. We do not require a searchable evidence library or complex data visualisations. Design style We will have a designer produce the core logos etc The website should feel: * Human. * Child-centred. * Credible. * Modern. * Clean. * Campaign-focused. * Serious without being corporate. * Urgent without being alarmist. The campaign is politically sensitive, so the site needs to look authoritative and evidence-led. We want to avoid: * Generic charity templates. * Overly corporate design. * Excessive animation. * Complex bespoke functionality. * Heavy use of stock photography. * Dense pages of text. We are looking for strong typography, good use of real photography/video, clear statistics and simple visual storytelling. What we will provide We will provide: * Final campaign copy. * National campaign statistics. * Local authority data. * Evidence and source links. * Edited videos. * Photographs. * Provider quotations. * Logo / brand direction. * Contact details. * Privacy wording. * Domain. * Google Analytics access. Technical requirements The site must: * Be built in Squarespace 7.1. * Be fully responsive. * Work particularly well on mobile. * Be easy for our team to edit. * Use standard Squarespace blocks wherever practical. * Use minimal custom CSS or code. * Include Google Analytics 4. * Support UTM tracking from social media campaigns. * Include a cookie banner. * Include basic SEO configuration. * Include appropriate social-sharing metadata. * Include good basic accessibility practice. We do **not** require: * WordPress. * Bespoke databases. * Custom CMS development. * Member logins. * Interactive financial calculators. * Complex interactive maps. * Postcode lookup. * CRM integration. * Advanced email automation. * Bespoke dashboards. Accessibility The site should follow good accessibility practice, including: * Clear heading structure. * Good colour contrast. * Readable text. * Keyboard-friendly navigation. * Alt text for images. * Captions for videos. * Clear form labels. * No essential information presented only as an image. A formal external accessibility audit is not part of the initial scope. Timescale We have a three-week delivery window. The successful developer must be able to **start immediately** and commit sufficient capacity to the project throughout the three weeks. Week 1 — Design and core build * Confirm site architecture. * Agree visual direction. * Design and build homepage. * Design and build master local authority page. * Confirm mobile presentation. * Begin remaining core pages. Week 2 — Core content and local pages * Complete national pages. * Complete local authority directory. * Duplicate and populate the 22 local authority pages. * Add supplied videos, images, statistics and evidence. * Configure basic SEO and social-sharing settings. Please clearly state: * Your fixed price. * What is included. * What is excluded. * Any third-party costs. * Any ongoing costs. We do not want an open-ended hourly arrangement. Ownership and access The site will be created in a Squarespace account owned by our organisation. We must retain: * Full Squarespace ownership. * Domain ownership. * Analytics ownership. * All website assets. * Access to any custom CSS or code. * Any editable design assets created for the site. No paid third-party software or subscriptions should be introduced without prior approval. We are open to developers based anywhere in the world. How to apply Please answer the following questions in your proposal. 1. Provide links to three live Squarespace 7.1 websites that you personally designed and built**. 2. Which project in your portfolio is most similar to this one, and why? 3. How would you structure the 22 local authority pages so that they are consistent and easy for our team to update? 4. How would you approach the mobile design, given that much of the traffic will come from social media? 5. What UK working-hour overlap can you provide? 6. Can you start immediately and complete the project within three weeks? 7. What fixed price would you propose for the scope above? 8. Will you personally complete the work, or will any part of it be subcontracted? 9. What information or assets would you need from us during the first three days to keep the project on schedule? Please start your proposal with the words: WALES CAMPAIGN This helps us identify applicants who have read the full brief. Generic proposals that do not answer the questions above are unlikely to be shortlisted. --- # Selection process We expect to shortlist a small number of candidates and hold brief video calls before appointment. The successful developer will initially be expected to establish and agree: * Homepage visual direction. * Master local authority page. * Mobile presentation. * Core visual style. Once this direction is approved, the rest of the website should be built efficiently using the agreed Squarespace design system. The overriding priorities are: **quality, speed, simplicity, mobile performance and ease of editing after launch.**
